What is Indigenous People's Day, Columbus Day, and Italian-American Heritage Day?

Although it may be marked as Columbus Day on some federal calendars, it's important to know the real history behind the holiday and why many choose to not refer to it as such. Today, we recognize the lives lost during the conquest of the Americas and celebrate the beauty and heritage of immigrants and Indigenous peoples across the country.

Standing Together with Our Himalayan Community

The flooding, landslides, and destruction in the Himalayan region along the Tibet–Nepal border are heartbreaking, especially knowing that many of you are here in New York while your loved ones are back home.

We are sending our love, prayers, and heartfelt support to all the communities affected. We hope your families and loved ones are safe and that you are able to stay connected with them during this difficult time.

Our community is a family, and when something happens back home, we feel it together. Let us stand beside one another with compassion, strength, and support.

From all of us at NY Tibetan Service Center, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. 🙏❤️

May all families remain safe, and may those affected find strength, comfort, and support during this difficult time.

The largest contingent appears to have been pilgrims traveling between Nepal and a sacred site in the Chinese region of Tibet.
