Art Beyond Sight

Art Beyond Sight Two key initiatives of Art Beyond Sight include Awareness Month and the Multimodal Approaches to Learning International Conference.

During Awareness Month institutions learn about other each other’s programs and techniques, educate their staff, and urge the board to provide funding for future programming for people with disabilities. Over the years, the number of participating organizations has grown from 30 to 250, forming a dynamic international community, where exchange and dialogue have helped improve successful programmin

g for people with disabilities. Organizations that have programs in place generally host special verbal description or touch tour(s) and/or programs in October, recognize outstanding docents or educators with Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month awards, organize special activities (field trips, art-making workshops) and special exhibitions. The Multimodal Approaches to Learning International Conference co-organized with The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the cornerstone of Art Beyond Sight's Awareness Month. The conference addresses inclusive and multisensory learning environments and strategies, particularly in relation to the arts and museums. Our discussions will focus on experiences that involve sound, touch, movement, drama, olfactory and modes of proprioceptive learning. Multimodal learning and creative experiences are meaningful to all audiences including people with disabilities and people with different learning preferences.

Do you live, work or have a special connection (ie: go to school) in NYC District 2?

We wanted to reach out not only because we’re currently part of a Participatory Budgeting campaign in District 2, but also to share our sincere appreciation. Council Member Epstein has been such a strong and consistent supporter of our work, and it truly means a great deal to us.

As voting is open through April 19, we were hoping you might be willing to help amplify this effort by sharing our project your social media platforms. It would be a meaningful way to both celebrate that support and encourage community participation.

If you’re open to it, we’ve attached a flyer with a QR code that can be easily shared. Tagging and would help broaden the reach.

Image description: Promotional Facebook post for NYC Belongs featuring logos at the top, a banner reading “Making District 2 More Accessible, Connected, and Inclusive,” and an illustration of a smartphone, cityscape, and diverse people, including wheelchair users. Bullet points highlight mapping disability resources, supporting organizations, improving access to services and events, and youth-driven collaboration. Bottom banner: “Vote for NYC Belongs April 11–19” with projectaccessforall.org. A QR code to vote is in the bottom right corner.
