Cuban American Alliance for Leadership & Education

Cuban American Alliance for Leadership & Education CAALE’s mission is centered on supporting education within our community. This is the genesis of the Cuban American Alliance for Leadership & Education.

This mission takes root in 3 pillars, through which we 1) fund our own merit-based scholarship 2) administer a leadership development program and 3) facilitate cultural education. CAALE was founded by young Cuban-American professionals from New Jersey and New York working to create better opportunities for students in our communities. We believe in the power of education, strive to accelerate the

professional and personal growth of the next generation’s leaders, and are wildly passionate about our Cuban roots. Short hand, we are CAALE, pronounced as the Spanish word “Calle,” meaning “street” or “road.” Our goal is to construct a road, and guide our students down that road to success. CAALE’s mission is centered on supporting education within our community, in all of its forms. This mission takes root in three pillars, through which we 1) fund our own merit-based college scholarship 2) provide forum for professional development and 3) facilitate cultural education. Through the implementation of our three-tiered mission, we aim to create a platform that produces a legacy of educating students, guiding them into successful professions, and enabling them to become valuable leaders in our community.

Meet Rosnel Leyva Cortes, born in Holguín, Cuba and now studying Electrical Engineering at Columbia University, a student whose journey reflects the power of opportunity, exposure, and cultural connection. 🇨🇺⚡

Through CAALE and the Leadership Development Program, Rosnel gained access to professional environments and influential leaders across industries, experiences that expanded his perspective and opened doors that once felt out of reach. From service trips to hands-on engagement with the community, he found himself surrounded by resources that supported both his academic and personal growth.

One of the most impactful moments for Rosnel was the Miami Impact Trip, where learning about the Cuban-American experience deepened his connection to Cuba and helped him understand the mosaic of stories that shaped our diaspora in the United States.

Rosnel’s story is a powerful reminder that when students are given access, mentorship, and community, they rise and they bring their culture with them. 💙

Caminata Martiana: Why We Begin at Castle Clinton ✨🇨🇺

In this video, two of our students share why Castle Clinton in NYC is the powerful first stop of our Caminata Martiana, the very place where José Martí first set foot in the United States after being exiled from Cuba.

Standing where Martí once stood reminds our students that our story is one of resilience, courage, and hope. It connects them to the journey of a leader who dedicated his life to freedom, justice, and the Cuban spirit.

For our students, this moment isn’t just historical, it’s emotional, grounding, and inspiring.

A reminder that our roots travel with us, and that every step forward honors those who walked before us.
