GSP Rescue of New Jersey

GSP Rescue of New Jersey Our mission is a home for every GSP! In many cases, people do not understand a GSP’s energy level or need for companionship before getting the dog.

We are a small group of volunteers dedicated to finding homes for lost or surrendered German Shorthaired Pointers, focusing primarily in NJ & NY, but working cooperatively with other Regional GSP Rescue groups. German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) are an energetic, loving, stubborn, but fiercely loyal breed of dogs often given up or abandoned for just these qualities. This can lead to surrender or a

bandonment. Luckily, we are an energetic, loving, stubborn, but fiercely loyal bunch of volunteers dedicated to finding permanent loving homes for abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted purebred GSPs. In addition, as part of our mission, we educate the public about the breed and the requirements of dog ownership in general. We also assist GSP owners as needed in order to prevent abandonment or surrender. Most members are current or past GSP owners; all share a love of this magnificent breed. The collective knowledge and dog experience in our group is a tremendous asset that differentiates us from many other rescue groups. It also enables our record of success, as our deep understanding of the breed helps us to match the right dog to the right family.

Mickey is a 4.5-year-old male German Shorthaired Pointer looking for an active family to call his own. This energetic guy loves to stay busy and has some hunt training—he finds and retrieves birds well, though his pointing skills could use a little polishing.

Mickey is a great dog who gets along well with people and other dogs. He's comfortable in his crate and enjoys having his own space to relax after a day of fun and activity.

Please note that Mickey is not currently in our rescue program, but we are assisting with his placement.

Interested in giving Mickey a home? Please complete our adoption application (a computer is required; the application does not work on mobile devices): https://gsprescuenj.com/adoption-process/adoption-application/

Don't let your Pooch get parched!
The heat is here. Dogs should drink 1 oz of water per pound that they weigh.
Dehydration can lead to a breakdown in organ function and eventually, death.

Drinking enough water every day will keep your pooch happy, healthy, and full of life as they age.

Please keep an eye on your neighbor's dog too...everyone needs water. It costs nothing to be kind.

Do you have a cooling mat for your pointer?

Dog cooling mats are effective tools to help pets stay safe and comfortable in hot weather, using gel, water, or advanced materials to lower body temperature without electricity or refrigeration.

How Cooling Mats Work:
Cooling mats absorb and dissipate a dog’s body heat, lowering surface temperature by 5–10°F. They are particularly important because dogs cannot sweat efficiently and rely on panting, which may fail in high temperatures, putting them at risk of heatstroke

There are many choices and we are not sponsored by any company nor are we recommending one over another... BUT you are welcome to share your recommendations below and we appreciate your participation. Stay Cool Dog!
