The Center focuses new attention on powerful figures from the past and present who can inspire people to rise to their highest capacities—people like Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mohandas Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Andrew Carnegie, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Albert Schweitzer and many others. As the Center develops, its scope will broaden; we envision national and interna

tional efforts to uncover stories of less-well-known transformative lives in the areas of international peace, human rights, environmentalism, government, ethical business leadership, inspired teaching, break-through medicine, literature and the arts, and other essential areas of human creativity and humanitarian progress. “The message is positive, and urgently needed in a world where young people are increasingly surrounded by cynicism and despair,” writes renowned historian and advisor David Hackett Fischer. “This Center is one of the great initiatives in teaching and learning today.”
