In conjunction with our College Office and Quantum Samurai F.I.R.S.T. Robotics team, the Aviation High School Science Leadership Institute cordially invites you to participate in our 3rd Annual Engineering Day on April 11, 2013. We are reaching out to a few of the most prestigious universities and academies that offer exciting engineering programs.

Since many of our students, especially our F.I.R.S.T. Robotics team members, inquire about admission to your institution, we would like to extend an invitation to a representative(s) from your Engineering Department, as well as one or more of your engineering students and admissions counselors to come to Aviation to speak to our students and acquaint them with your engineering program.

Federally regulated, Aviation High School offers both a complete technology and academic program. The 100+ members of our F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Team design build and compete in the SBPLI Long Island Regional.

In its nine year history, the team has been tremendously successful. During the 2005 season the students won the Rookie Inspiration Award and the Rookie Highest Seed Award. In 2006 the team won the Engineering Inspiration Award followed by the prestigious Chairman's Award in 2007. In 2008 the students won the Chrysler Daimler Team Spirit Award and during the 2009 season, the kids once again won the Engineering Inspiration Award, the second highest honor awarded to a team at a regional event. Finally in 2010 and 2011 our team won the Entrepreneurship Award.

As you can see, our students are highly motivated and are not afraid of hard work. During their 42 day robotic building season, students can be found in the building until 9:00 P.M. weekdays and on Saturday and Sunday. Their enthusiasm and dedication is contagious. We believe that these are the types of extraordinary young people that you might be looking for, and so we ask that you join us on April 11, 2013.

We would be more than happy to accommodate any audio-visual needs that you might have. Tables and a comfortable area for you to display brochures, etc. will be provided. A schedule for the day's activities is a follow:

7:45-8:15 Continental Breakfast Teachers' lunch room

8:15-8:40 Set Up Gymnasium

8:56-11:22 Engineering Day Gymnasium

11:30-12:00 Lunch Teachers' lunchroom

12:00-1:00 Panel discussion & presentation by Robotic Students.

Parking will be available on school grounds. Hangar parking is located on 35th street with the main entrance being on 36th street. Students will be available to assist and guide you at both locations. Plan to arrive between 8:00 and 8:15 A.M. so that we may provide you with free and easily accessible parking in the hangar and an opportunity to set up in the library.

In order to plan this Engineering Day, we ask that you please contact me by phone or you can email by March 21st 2013. We eagerly hope that you will be able to join us and meet our incredible students and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Dear Volunteers,

This message may come to you as bad news or good news. I want to give you an update on the Bronx Qualifier.

First let me apologize for the lack of communication. We found ourselves in a bit of a dilemma at the location site of the qualifier; they double booked our room for the tournament in which we were not informed until last Monday and could not get a meeting until Thursday to look at our new location. The new accommodations while were adequate put us on a time restraint of trying to complete everything by 12:30pm.

We opted to move the date, looking for another location at this late date was not possible. The qualifier has been moved to Sunday, Feb. 3rd 8am-2pm still at Fordham University McGinley Hall.

I was informed that Feb. 3rd is Super Bowl Sunday but the game does not start until 6:30 and we will be done with the tournament no later than 2pm, team registration at 8am—opening ceremonies at 9:15; begin judging at 9:30-9:45. The current schedule has everything ending at 1:20 but I am leaving room for any late comers or mishaps.

I am sincerely sorry if this comes as an inconvenience to anyone. Please let me know if you are not able to volunteer on Feb. 3rd. We are still in NEED of many volunteers for the March Event at Javits Center, so if you are interested in that, please go to this linkhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dHRsbmszY1R6Q1pDeEtDOTd6VUhBS3c6MQand register please.

Any questions, please email me directly at [email protected].

Best Regards,
