What's going on unreported in the news is the incredible behind-the-scenes work that is being done by ordinary people in the wake of Hurricane Helene, especially for the affected animals & livestock, further bolstering the federal response's most important work: helping humans in trouble.
Growers are donating & shipping entire fields of hay - hundreds of thousands of dollars worth. People are setting up staging areas. Truckers are donating their time & their efforts to deliver huge loads to pick-up points. Volunteers are loading their trailers & trucks & delivering the hay to those in need but who don't have transportation or the means.
Semis full of donated bagged grains & oats & bran & more are adding to the mix, constantly going into & out of drop-off & pick-up points.
People with livestock trailers are ferrying animals to safe places - places that have been offered up for free. Once there, the animals are being cared for by their owners & others wanting to help.
Monetary donations have been flowing in from all over the world, all by ordinary people who just want to do what they can.
An entire volunteer industry is & has been hard at work for days & nights, always in unyielding conditions.
And all of that is making a huge, huge difference.
It just goes to show us, once again, that when the chips are down, people band together to do the incredible.
And that is a story that needs to be told.
