Rental Ripoff Hearings - Submit Online Testimony

New York City is currently holding “Rental Ripoff” hearings, encouraging tenants to come forward and share their experiences. While those voices are highlighted, the perspectives of the people who actually own, operate, and maintain housing in this city are largely missing from the conversation.

If the City wants stories, they should hear from housing providers too.

We encourage all members to submit testimony online and explain the real challenges of operating housing in NYC—rising property taxes, insurance, utilities, labor, and regulatory burdens, all while rental income remains restricted.

Your real-world experience matters. Even if you cannot attend the hearings in person, your written testimony can still be part of the official record.

Now is the time to make sure policymakers hear the full story about what it takes to provide and maintain housing in New York City.

Thank you for your interest in submitting testimony. Please be advised that any personal information you provide in your comment or testimony will be publicly available and will remain part of the public record.

Following the recent decision in People of the State of New York v. Commons West, LLC, in which the Appellate Division held that New York cannot compel property owners to participate in the federal Section 8 program through the State’s source-of-income discrimination law, Kucker Marino Winiarsky & Bittens, LLP, in partnership with the Small Property Owners of New York (SPONY), will be hosting a webinar to discuss the ruling and its potential implications for property owners and operators.

During this program, our panel will review the court’s decision, discuss how it may affect owners participating in or considering participation in the Section 8 program, and address key legal and operational considerations for housing providers moving forward.
