28 artists. A free contemporary self-portrait workshop. Our Strike A Pose selfie station. Free exhibition catalogs while supplies last.
Take our survey and receive a commemorative art sticker while supplies last. Make an afternoon of it with the SummerStage Charlie Parker Jazz Festival happening in the park’s ampitheater just steps away.

COME MAKE SOME ART.

At We’re Outside, you won’t just get to see art. You can make some, too.💪🏾

Artist and master teaching artist Élan Cadiz will lead a free contemporary self-portrait workshop inspired by her SCAFFOLD: Equity of Treatment portrait series.

Participants will use a variety of materials to create their own one-of-a-kind mixed-media self-portrait to take home.

Saturday, August 29 | 2–7 PM Marcus Garvey Park | Northwest Lawn

Sessions will take place on a rolling basis throughout the afternoon. No registration required. All materials are provided. Seating is limited and available first come, first served.

Free and open to all.

Presented as part of We’re Outside, the annual outdoor group art exhibition in partnership with Heath Gallery and an official ancillary event of the SummerStage Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.

You’re Invited.
Preserving and celebrating the culture of our neighborhood is central to MMPCIA’s work, and We’re Outside is one way we’re proud to support that mission by bringing artists and the community together in Marcus Garvey Park.

On Saturday, August 29, MMPCIA is pleased to partner with Heath Gallery to present We’re Outside, a free outdoor group art exhibition in Marcus Garvey Park.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, the exhibition is an official ancillary event of the SummerStage Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.

Here’s what you’ll find at this year’s exhibition:
* 28 artists sharing their artwork
* You’ # can meet the artists and learn more about their work.
* A free contemporary self-portrait workshop led by artist and master teacher Élan Cadiz.
* Our Strike a Pose selfie station for photos with friends and family.
* A complimentary exhibition catalog while supplies last.
* Complete a brief survey and receive a free art sticker.
* The music and energy of the SummerStage Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.

Four years ago, MMPCIA and Heath Gallery brought 10 artists into Marcus Garvey Park l Harlem for the first We’re Outside. This year, 28 artists will show their work on the Northwest Lawn.
Come meet the artists, see a broad range of contemporary art, and spend some time talking with them. You can also make art yourself, in our free Contemporary Self-Portrait Workshop, listen to jazz, take a photo at our community selfie station, or just find a spot on the lawn and relax.
This year, we’re very pleased that once again We’re Outside is an official ancillary event of the Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. Come spend the afternoon with us.
It’s a great chance to unwind, and enjoy art, music, and community in the heart of Harlem.
We’re Outside is presented by the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association in partnership with Heath Gallery.

We’re proud to once again be a City Parks Foundation NYC Green Fund awardee, helping to bring free arts programming to Marcus Garvey Park.
Now in its fourth consecutive year, We’re Outside returns on Saturday, August 29, delivering an outdoor celebration of art, music, and community.
Presented by the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association (MMPCIA) in partnership with Heath Gallery, and an official ancillary event of the City Parks Foundation SummerStage Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, We’re Outside invites friends, neighbors and visitors alike to spend an afternoon outside with us:
🎨 Exploring original artwork by 28 contemporary artists 👋 Meeting the artists and learning more about their work. 🖌 Participating in a free Contemporary Portrait-Making Workshop led by master teaching artist Élan Cadiz (space is limited)📸 Have some fun at our specially designed selfie station. 🌳 Chilling on the lawn while enjoying the sounds of the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival from the nearby amphitheater.

Join MMPCIA, the Harlem Place, Memory & Culture Archive, and Harlem Library for a FREE Community Digitization Day, part of MMPCIA’s Harlem Archive Project.
Bring the photographs, family albums, letters, journals, artwork, flyers, VHS tapes, slides, negatives, CDs, DVDs, meeting minutes, and other personal archival materials that tell your family’s story and Harlem’s story.
The Harlem Place, Memory & Culture Archive team will digitize your materials, and you’ll leave with a USB drive containing your digital files. If you choose, you may also contribute copies to help preserve the history of everyday Harlemites for future generations.

GET INVOLVED!
NYC Parks will be starting the design process for important capital projects in Marcus Garvey Park, including the reconstruction of the two playgrounds on the north side of the park along 124th Street and improvements in the vicinity of the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater. Come join us to share your ideas for these projects at our virtual Community Input Meeting on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will take place on Microsoft Teams.

Registration is required via nyc.gov/parks/input. Please find registration link in bio. The meeting link will be emailed the afternoon of the meeting to those who register in advance.

Please help us spread the word in your community so that we can have as many voices as possible.
