Meet our Brooklyn Panel! Freestyle Lab #2 is in two weeks, and we're thrilled to announce the folks who will kick off the event with a performance and then move us into our community conversation. For this lab, we're also thrilled to have a non-performer panelist join the convo, adding a perspective shaped by a 40-year career in social work and home care.

For more info on the Aug 29th Lab, check out our RSVP page here: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/nysedonate/event/freestylelabs2026brooklyn/

We had a great tablework rehearsal on Monday evening, with the chemistry already sparking between our five actors! Come join us on Saturday at ETG Book Cafe (.bookcafe) for the kick-off to our five-borough series of Freestyle Labs.

For detail on this Saturday's lab, check out our RSVP link:

Freestyle Labs are community conversations on a variety of topics, hosted by NYSX. Each lab begins with a performance of excerpts from Shakespeare that highlight the topics to be discussed. Next, the performers become panelists, engaging in a moderated discussion on those topics (like a talkback!). Finally, we will open up the discussion for questions or observations from the audience. In this cycle, we will tour all five boroughs with labs on the same topic. While we’re anchoring the series with that common thread, we’re excited to see how the discussions change with different panelists and audiences in play!

Join us today for an outdoor "office hours" session with NYSX, from 3-6pm in Van Cortlandt Park! Find us in the shade of the trees near the Tortise & Hare Statue (most likely south of the statue): https://maps.app.goo.gl/KGZrJsHeTpXGkzMR7

If you're already in our network, come hang out and catch up! If you're interested in learning more about our work and how you might get involved in the future, this is the perfect, chill setting to do so. Also, there will be lawn games, a book swap pile, and a high potential for new friendships to spark. Come on out and soak up this beautiful day at the top of the 1 train line!

** CASTING CALL **

We are seeking actor/panelists to participate in our first two Freestyle Labs, coming up on August 1st (at ETG Book Cafe in Staten Island), and August 29th (at the Brooklyn Heights Library in Brooklyn). After a script-in-hand performance of several scenes from Shakespeare's canon at the start of the event, the performers will become panelists in a discussion on the lab's topic, moderated by NYSX's Artistic Director. If you like a talkback, this is very much your cup of tea!

PLEASE NOTE: There will only be two rehearsals for each lab - a tablework rehearsal in the week leading up to the lab (scheduled around actor availability) and a rehearsal earlier on the performance day.

To be considered, please send us an email per the instructions in the last slide - we look forward to hearing from you!

Mark your August calendars because Freestyle Labs are back! This year, we're giving a new format a try - a tour of all five boroughs with a single unifying topic:

AGES & STAGES
What Shakespeare has to tell us about youth, experience, inter-generational relationships, and the many ways we "come of age" in a lifetime

The RSVP link for the Staten Island lab (August 1) is in the comments, and the RSVP page for the Brooklyn lab (August 29) will go live by the end of the week. As for Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens - we expect those labs to be held between early October and early November, but exact dates, times, and locations are currently TBA.

If there's one phrase Queens folks can relate to, it's "ya gotta believe." File this under "Venn Diagram overlap between Shakespeare and the Mets and/or Santa."

Come watch these believers in action at ShakesBEER THIS and next Saturday (May 30 & June 6) in Sunnyside!
