If there's one phrase Queens folks can relate to, it's "ya gotta believe." File this under "Venn Diagram overlap between Shakespeare and the Mets and/or Santa."

Come watch these believers in action at ShakesBEER THIS and next Saturday (May 30 & June 6) in Sunnyside!

As tonight kicks off a four-evening streak in the rehearsal studios for our ShakesBEER team, we wanted to share some shots from our read-through rehearsal last week. The energy was already crackling, and we can't wait to see these scenes come to life as they get up on their feet and onto some rehearsal blocks (as stand-in bartops)! As you can see, our Romeo/Juliet and Lysander/Demetrius pairs were already having a hard time staying in their seats...

Have you got your tickets yet? Performance #1 is THIS Saturday! Snag 'em at the link in comments.

Meet the team behind our upcoming pub crawl in Sunnyside! We're thrilled to have a mix of ShakesBEER veterans alongside some newer friends, and we can't wait to Huzzah with you all on May 30th and June 6th!

Experiencing a ShakesBEER pub crawl has often been described - by performers and attendees of past crawls - as what it might be like to see Shakespeare performed INSIDE the Groundlings’ pit. An ensemble of actors brings a different scene to life at each bar, creating an immersive experience for the audience, some of whom might find themselves shoulder-to-shoulder with Juliet, Puck, or Falstaff! This crawl will feature scenes from Romeo and Juliet, Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Tickets are now on sale - link in the comments. Capacity is limited, so we strongly encourage booking in advance. Any tickets still available on the day of the performance may be purchased (cash-only) at the check-in station.

Look to the east, there's something bright on the horizon... A Sunnyside ShakesBEER!

Tickets are now on sale for our next pub crawl on May 30th and June 6th, and we're so excited to be hosted by four fantastic spots in the heart of Sunnyside, Queens. The crawl begins at Sanger Hall in Sunnyside Gardens; from there we stroll down the tree-lined sidewalks of Skillman Ave and cut up 43rd Street to The Lowery; then it's up to Queens Blvd to Maggie Mae's, then across the boulevard to end at Mad for Chicken! We'll end up just a couple of blocks from the 7 train - your chariot home after you've huzzah-ed yourself hoarse and filled up on delicious food and drinks.

Along the way, our ensemble of actors will delight you with performances of four scenes, each from a different Shakespeare play, performed shoulder-to-shoulder with you and your fellow crawlers. Four drink tickets are included with a full-price ticket, redeemable at any of the four bars. And don’t worry, sober friends – admission-only tickets (no drinks included) are available, so you can also join the fun! For more info and to snag your tickets now, head to the link in the comments.

April Lookback, Part 2: Verses vs. Verses

Another round of heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who braved the weather last Saturday to join us in Staten Island for a wonderful open mic event, hosted by ETG Book Café, a haven for community and artistic expression if we ever saw one.

A solid crowd of about 20-25, our gathering included poets local to SI as well as other boroughs, some students from Wagner College (including one who was brave enough to share a poem of her own!), and a solid contingent of Shakespeare fans. The vibes were so welcoming that quite a few first-timers took a turn at the mike, leading one of the more experienced poets to comment that the rookies were showing up the veterans!

An exciting cap to the day came when the event's hosts (Cristina and David) headed over to Snug Harbor Cultural Center to catch some of Translating Sonnets, an annual event presented by Staten Island Shakespeare Theatre Company with Cynthia Rodriguez and Thomas Fucaloro, two poets who shared their work at our event earlier that afternoon. It was a wonderful evening, and we left buzzing with excitement about all the possible collaborations the future might hold!
