Bank Street and the New York Hall of Science are thrilled to announce that applications are open for our Kerlin Early Childhood STEAM Institute. This exciting opportunity for K-2 educators includes three free courses beginning in January 2027 designed to help educators integrate active, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) in early childhood classrooms. Participants who complete the program will earn a STEAM certificate, and the courses are worth 3 graduate credits (equivalent to 45 CTLE hours). - Clinical Supervision for Social Workers and School Counselors: Monthly individual or group sessions grounded in ERP, developmental understanding, and relational support. This month, the New York State Board of Regents voted to end the Regents exam requirement for a high school diploma. A new Vital City opinion piece titled "In (Partial) Defense of Retiring N.Y.’s Regents Exam Requirement" by Bank Street President Shael Polakow-Suransky, GSE '00, explores the opportunities and challenges of the new rule, which will take effect next school year.

He also highlights the significant work ahead as this change takes effect: "As the Regents requirement recedes, time now devoted to test prep should shift toward designing, reviewing, and calibrating richer student assignments." He added, "The work ahead is substantial. Teachers need help designing demanding assignments, common scoring guides and examples of student work, and regular time to compare judgments with colleagues from other schools."
