We are proud to announce that the Bank Street Education Center has received a new grant from Robin Hood to support high-quality early childhood education. As the city rolls out 2K and expands its 3K program, this funding will allow Bank Street to offer professional learning and coaching to early childhood leaders and educators focused on infant and toddler development. We look forward to continuing our work with New York City Public Schools to help create early learning experiences that build a strong foundation for our city's youngest learners. Last week, Bank Street hosted our fourth annual Summer Math Conference, “Math Connections: Making Meaning Together.” The event brought together math educators, coaches, and leaders from across the country to engage in mathematics together and explore the connections within mathematics content, among our mathematics communities, and across mathematical identities.

Over the course of two days and more than 20 workshops, participants embraced a learner’s stance. One educator reflected, “I used to think I wasn't qualified to talk about or teach mathematics because of my lack of a math background, but now I know that is not true. Everyone can be a math person.” Another participant shared, “I used to think that I could not enjoy math in a fun and engaging way, but now I know I can, and bring that excitement back to my students using all the fun games I learned today.”

We’re excited to continue this work with our community of math educators, co-creating inclusive, affirming learning environments for all.

In the second part of our early childhood education interview series, Bank Street College President Shael Polakow-Suransky explores what young children miss in low-quality learning environments and why intentional spaces, meaningful interactions, and opportunities for exploration and movement are critical for healthy brain development.
