Advances in neuroscience and the learning sciences have transformed what we know about how people grow and learn, making it clear that schools and educator preparation programs need to evolve to support the whole child. A new interactive site from the Learning Policy Institute and Educator Preparation Laboratory (EdPrepLab) outlines five design principles for strengthening teacher preparation grounded in the science of learning and development. Through interactive videos, photos, resources, and real-world examples of programs applying these principles in practice, the site illuminates ways that preparation programs can be designed to support candidates and prepare future educators to bring whole child teaching to life.

A favorite Bank Street tradition is our annual 13/14s trip to Washington, DC, where students get to experience democratic life in action. This spring’s itinerary was one for the books! Our students met with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, toured NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert set (and spotted mementos from Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter), explored the Library of Congress, and even caught a Mets vs. Nationals game.
