The Greek Orthodox Basketball League (GOBL) held its League Representative Committee Meeting on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Holy Cross in Whitestone, bringing together league leadership and parish representatives to review the past season and outline key initiatives for the future.
The meeting opened with prayer, followed by welcoming remarks from the League Commissioner, who thanked all representatives, coaches, players, and volunteers for their continued commitment and contributions to another successful season.
A comprehensive review of the 2025–2026 season was conducted, highlighting the league’s growth, competitive balance, and strong community engagement. The Committee also addressed matters related to player and coach discipline, including the status of suspensions and those carrying over into the upcoming season, as well as an update on coaches currently serving probationary terms.
A significant portion of the meeting focused on the structure of the league moving forward. The league presented an updated vision for the “National Division,” followed by a formal resolution which passed with overwhelming support. The resolution eliminates National Division teams from receiving automatic qualification into the league playoffs. Additional details regarding this new and exciting format will be shared in an upcoming league release in the coming days.
Looking ahead to the 2026–2027 season, the Committee engaged in discussion regarding divisional structure, including the Girls 1 and Boys 1 divisions. Emphasis was placed on providing younger participants, including 7-year-olds, with another meaningful ministry-based opportunity to become more actively involved in their parish and the life of the Church. The official league calendar for the 2026–2027 season was also presented.
The Committee further reviewed league operations, including a discussion on league fees. It was noted that fees have remained unchanged since the 2017 season, with ongoing evaluation to ensure the league continues to meet its operational needs while remaining accessible to all participating parishes.
The Greek Orthodox Basketball League remains committed to fostering sportsmanship, and faith centered community engagement. Further updates and announcements will be communicated in the coming weeks.
