Excited to share a review we received of our Sunday May 14 3PM Performance of “RE-STRAIN-ED”. Big thank you to Michael Phoenix for covering the event.

Right off: Very Special Thank You: Rebecca McCormac for the chance to cover this incredible (at times indescribable) performance.

Lights go out / 2 doors diagonal from each other. Woman (dancer) appears from far one trying to make her way to the other. 4 other women (dancers) trying to stop / hold her back. Grabbing and creating obstacles. Attempting to drag her down. Closing the gap to the other door, she turns around. Again the other women attempt to stop her from returning the way she came. Almost like making sure she stays between the 2 destinations. A place of static / indecisiveness, unable to move forward with her life or return.

That was the opening phase of a performance ranging from individual stories to: shut down the brain / don't try to figure it out or understand / just be part of the experience.

Re-Strain-ed, from the start created a reality that was part story / somewhere between physical reality and dreams / past and future. Like I said, at times, indescribable. Which is extremely difficult with me (10 years of art / music / event reviews and vivid imagination).

Re-Strain-ed was only my 2nd experience with dance theater. Wishing I would have checked out an earlier performance. On the very short list of 2 times almost required. Not to understand, to observe what you missed the 1st time. Rebecca and dancers created something that can't be duplicated.

On technical side: every movement was fluid. Each dancer always knowing their spot in reference to the others. Every dancer given chance to show what they were capable of individually and combining with the others. Moments where different combinations blended into one flowing movement.

Doesn't matter if you have never experienced dance theater, if you are seasoned veteran. A performance by CoreDance Contemporary is something you must experience.

On the creating reality part, before I forget. Cell Phones off during performance. I did forget about having one. Even moving felt like going against natural laws performance was creating.

Appreciation Post!

This weekend was a culmination of months of hard work and I couldn’t be prouder of the work I created in collaboration with this ensemble of remarkable women. Our Spring Season “RE-STRAIN-ED” wrapped yesterday afternoon after three amazing performances.

These ladies need to be celebrated! They are a true testament to the notion that “team work makes the dream work”. The term “smart dancers” was something that was being thrown around this weekend and that they are as well as so much more! Talented, athletic, virtuosic, artistic, captivating, stunning…the list goes on. I am honored to say they dance for CoreDance Contemporary. In essence they are true CoreDance Artists! Bravissimo ladies on a successful season 🤎
