was killed in his own home in front of his mom and little brother over TWO YEARS ago, and his family is STILL waiting for action. The CCRB and NYPD charged Officers Salvatore Alongi and Matthew Cianfrocco for killing the teenager OVER a year ago – so why haven’t they faced a trial or been fired yet??

is more than a celebration – it’s a moment to recognize the powerful people, movements & orgs that demonstrate our strength when we stand together, despite escalating threats.

This year, we are excited to honor a long-time partner, key collaborator, and co-conspirator: 👏

For years, VOCAL has been tireless in its efforts to build grassroots power among low-income people who are directly impacted by HIV/AIDS, the drug war, mass incarceration, and homelessness in order to create healthy and just communities.

Together this year, we’ve:
❌ Successfully organized to rollback the proposed NYPD headcount expansion
📢Developed recs for the new Office of Community Safety & pushed the office to adopt them
✊Co-strategized how to fight back on broken windows policing while creating real safety in our communities
👏Pressured Mayor Mamdani to be more responsive to our vision of safety
🤍Supported families and loved ones in their campaigns for justice and accountability

Durante años, VOCAL ha trabajado incansablemente para construir poder desde las bases entre personas de bajos ingresos directamente afectadas por el VIH/SIDA, la guerra contra las dr**as, el encarcelamiento masivo y la falta de vivienda, con el fin de crear comunidades sanas y justas.
Juntos, este año hemos:

❌ Logrado organizarnos para frenar la propuesta de aumentar el número de agentes del NYPD
📢 Desarrollado recomendaciones para la nueva Oficina de Seguridad Comunitaria e impulsado su adopción
✊ Diseñado estrategias conjuntas para combatir la política policial de "ventanas rotas" (broken windows) y, al mismo tiempo, crear seguridad real en nuestras comunidades

10 years ago today, JC member/CopWatch/former staffer Daniel "Majesty" Sanchez, transitioned. Majesty was an artist, activist, organizer and Justice Committee leader and a friend and comrade to many of us.

In 2013, Majesty founded . He also helped to lead .

Maj joined JC in 2012 as a member of our South Bronx team. Over the next four years he contributed immensely to the organization as a CopWatch team leader, youth program co-coordinator, families organizer, media spokes person, chant leader and rally emcee.

Please keep Majesty and his family (blood and chosen) in your hearts today and always.

13 years since the landmark Floyd ruling, the NYPD is still -ing -- and lying to cover it up.

The new court-appointed monitor's report shows systematic under-reporting, disabled body cameras, and reclassified encounters - all designed to hide illegal stops from oversight. And we still don't see any consequences for the officers, supervisors, and commanders who let it happen.

"The question now is whether this mayor will finally require the NYPD to finally stop their illegal racial profiling and abusive violence against Black, Latine, and other communities of color, or whether Jessica Tisch, the NYPD, and individual officers will continue to get a pass when they break the law.”

7 years ago today, on September 29, 2019, was waiting for a cab at night when plainclothes NYPD officers jumped out of an unmarked car and murdered him. Officers racially profiled Antonio, unconstitutionally stopped him, assaulted him, and killed him in a hail of 15 bullets – some shot from over 50 feet away.

To this day, none of the NYPD officers responsible have been held accountable, and Det. Daniel Beddows was allowed to retire without discipline.

Today marks 14 years since the NYPD killed in his home. Mohamed graduated from Clinton High School with honors at the age of 16. In 2012, he was a student at Bronx Community College and a taxi driver, who was committed to helping Harlem residents in need

Mrs. Bah called 911 for an ambulance because her son was in emotional and physical distress. Police arrived first and forced their way into Mohamed’s apartment, shot and killed him ex*****on style, and then tried to cover it up.

While none of the officers involved faced adequate accountability, thanks to Mohamed’s mother’s tireless efforts and supporters across the city, none of officers involved are still in the NYPD.

Next Friday, Sept. 25, will mark 14 years since the NYPD gunned down in his own home. His mother, Mrs. Hawa Bah, had called 911 for an ambulance to take him to the hospital because she knew he needed care. The NYPD showed up first, busted into his apartment and shot him eight times.

Since that moment, Mrs. Bah has been steadfast in her fight for justice for all victims and survivors of police violence and to remove cops from responding to mental health crises.
