Today we honor Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrating the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.

These themes continue to inspire our work as artists. In a few weeks, the company will present ENLIGHTENMENT, a work inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as part of the Newport Dance Festival 2026. This year’s festival explores the theme of freedom in conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the United States.

We are honored to contribute to this important conversation through dance and to reflect on the many voices and struggles that have shaped our understanding of freedom.

✨ Alison Cook Beatty Dance is honored to make its Newport Dance Festival debut this July! ✨
Presented by Newport Contemporary Ballet, the 2026 Newport Dance Festival brings together innovative artists from across the United States and around the world under the theme of Freedom, inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms and the celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary.
ACBD will present two works:
🌟 Houston Street Hootenanny
🌟 Enlightenment — inspired by the words of Martin Luther King Jr. and set to music by Arvo Pärt. ACBD is grateful for the support of New England Foundation of the Arts for this work in CT and RI as the co. gets ready to rehearse at Lee Lund Studio of Dance and work with our guest artist friends from Newport Contemporary Ballet and elsewhere, such as ⓒⓐⓣ ⓠⓤⓘⓝⓝ !
A fun bit of history connects our performance to Newport itself. Musical excerpts featured in Houston Street Hootenanny include “Like a Rolling Stone” and “If I Had a Hammer.” Bob Dylan famously performed Like a Rolling Stone at the Newport Folk Festival on July 25, 1965, during his legendary “going electric” appearance just a few miles from where this festival takes place today. We are thrilled to share our work alongside an incredible roster of national and international artists and to be part of a festival that celebrates the power of dance to explore freedom, dignity, community, and the human experience.
While ACBD has previously performed in Rhode Island, this marks the company’s first appearance at the Newport Dance Festival. We look forward to joining Newport audiences July 15–19 for this inspiring celebration of dance and freedom.
Patrons are invited to arrive early, bring a picnic, blanket, or lawn chair, and enjoy world-class dance in a beautiful outdoor setting.

A new week means new opportunities to create, collaborate, and keep moving forward.

As we continue rehearsals for our upcoming summer performances, we are grateful for the incredible dancers, supporters, board members, donors, and audience members who make this work possible. From NYC to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, we are excited to share dance, storytelling, and community with you all season long.

This week, we’re hard at work preparing for the upcoming DUMBO Dance Festival Grand Finale performance of NOVA and looking ahead to our summer festival season.

Join us on June 28 at 6:00 PM as we present excerpts from NOVA, a work dedicated to the memory of Alison's beloved mentor, and friend, Ms. Jo Matos.

Created in celebration of resilience, remembrance, and the lasting impact of those who shape our lives, NOVA reflects the power of community and the light that continues to guide us long after someone is gone.

Alison registered a star, named NOVA in the Swan constellation thru Star Registry in honor of Ms. Jo. She then created this dance NOVA so her light can shine always.

We are grateful to White Wave Dance for this opportunity and excited to share the stage with artists from around the world.

Applications are now open for Artists in Motion 2026 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater!

Alison Cook Beatty Dance is seeking a select group of professional dance companies and choreographic artists to join us for an evening of performance and collaboration in one of New York City’s premier dance venues.

🎭 Included in this opportunity:

✔️ Highly subsidized theater rental
✔️ Professional lighting design
✔️ Professional photography & videography
✔️ Box office management
✔️ Marketing support
✔️ Tech rehearsal
✔️ Program production & printing
✔️ Artists receive their box office ticket sales revenue back (minus a 3% processing fee)

Happy Birthday to the wonderful Carol Prud’homme Davis! 🎉🎂

Today we celebrate an extraordinary artist, dancer, choreographer, writer, and valued member of the Alison Cook Beatty Dance Board of Directors.

This beautiful Dance/Draw image was inspired by Alison’s Joyful Offering, part of Carol’s ongoing exploration of translating movement into visual art. Through her unique artistic practice, Carol captures the energy, emotion, rhythm, and spirit of dance on paper, creating what she describes as “a sentence or thought communicated onto paper with no words.”

We are continually inspired by Carol’s creativity, generosity, and dedication to the arts. Thank you for sharing your gifts with our community and for helping support the work of Alison Cook Beatty Dance.
