Hello Everyone!

I hope you are well and enjoying the summer. Now is the time to paint out of doors before the weather becomes too warm. A lot of you have mentioned that you are involved in figure drawing groups. That is one of the best things an artist can do to develop and maintain drawing skills. If you’d like me to post more information about places to work from a live model, let me know.

Please allow me get you up to speed with what is happening with your Chapter Leader. My husband and I are building a house in the Adirondacks! I will be acting as my own general contractor and need to be Upstate a lot this summer. During these periods when I need to be out of town I’d like to encourage you to think about hosting plein air events in the city. Simply decide on a place and time you’d like to gather. I’ll have internet access and will be happy to send the information out to members via email and facebook.

NYPAP STATEWIDE PAINT OUT DAYS IN MEMORY OF NYPAP FOUNDER, TED BEARDSLEY
May 30 - June 2, 2013

NYCPAP member Claudia Schellenberg and I visited Olana State Historical Site and former home of Frederick Church to paint with members of the New York Plein Air Painters of New York State. Artists came from all over New York State. The event at Olana was organized as a tribute to founder Ted Beardsley. The weather was historically hot and humid but the vista from Olana was epic in its beauty. If you have not yet visited Olana, it is worth the trip. Two hours from New York City, the place has endless interesting views and gardens. More can be learned from their website: www.olana.org. To learn more about the NYPAP and Ted Beardsley, please follow their link:

One of the artists present demonstrated PanPastels, a new pastel drawing product. She kept talking about how they were as fun to use, like playing with make-up. That caught my interest. There seemed to be less dust blowing around and no need for gloves.

The grounds are open 8:00 am- sunset daily. The house is open for tours Tuesday through Sunday. No strollers or backpacks please. For more information, please click here.

Hello Everyone!

Wisteria is one of my favorite flowers and it is in full bloom in Central Park! I propose we gather next Wednesday, May 15th, to paint it from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Meet at The Mall at 70th Street near the Naumburg Bandshell.

Please see the link below for more details:

http://www.centralparknyc.org/visit/things-to-see/south-end/wisteria-pergola.html

Directions:

The IND Eighth Avenue local train (C) and Sixth Avenue local train (B) stop at Central Park West and 72nd Street, the closest subway stop to the Naumburg Bandshell. The IRT Broadway line #'s. 1, 2, & 3 trains stop a few blocks west of the park on Broadway at 72nd Street. The Lexington Avenue local, #6 train, gives you a choice: Stop at either 77th Street or 68th Street. Please note that Broadway and Lexington Avenues are only a somewhat short walk away from the Naumburg Bandshell's mid-park 72nd Street location. The Naumburg Bandshell is just south of the Bethesda Fountain and Terrace. (Bathrooms are located nearby below the Bethesda Terrace.)

I hope to see you next week!

To provide a shady overlook for the Concert Ground, Olmsted and Vaux perched a Wisteria Pergola on a high ridge to the east of the original bandshell. The Pergola remains a cool refuge from summer sun, its gnarled wisteria vines woven over the years into a latticework roof, and the springtime wister...

Visiting my family in New Jersey recently, a farmer permitted me to paint his cows. He situated me inside the electrified fence; the cows observed me from outside the pen. Bobolink Farm makes excellent cheese. Look for them at the farmer's markets in Manhattan.
