Drawing from the raw experience of the founders and volunteers in the field to whom the problem is known all too well, The COL acts in 3 small, but direct and impactful, strides to bring about change it dreams of:
1 – General Financial Assistance – funds raised here go directly to pay school fees, just $10 per year, for students who cannot afford the costs of their education. To date, The Childre
n of Lavié has renewed its support to the 1,700 school-aged children that are currently under its care. Please visit www.thechildrenoflavie.org and make a donation.
• What’s this program good for? Well, it keeps the children in school where they learn the skills for a better tomorrow.
2 – The Masa Memorial Essay Contest – MMEC
Each year, MMEC awards between 9 and 26 prizes depending on the availability of funds. Each winner receives a certificate and cash reward to further support their dreams of education. Please visit www.thechildrenoflavie.org and make a donation.
• What’s this program good for? Well, 1) the certificate is meant to boost the winners' self esteem as they grow more confident in their strength and ability to succeed and, 2) the cash reward helps to further relieve the financial burden on the parents who see their child's potential but struggle with the school fees every year.
3 – The Lavié Library Project
It goes without saying that school libraries are simply a necessity. The COL wanted to build one and it has started with baby steps due to lack of funding. • What’s this project good for? Just imagine your local school without a library… Further, our overall mission cannot be fulfilled without it. Founded in 2003 and entirely run by its volunteers, The Children of Lavié operates with a stern focus exclusively on these main areas. Because of the plain belief that these three strides forward would lead to the advancement of its mission, The COL does things a bit differently:
