The official page for Waggytail Rescue, a volunteer-run 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Foster homes are the MOST ESSENTIAL part of what we do!

Founded in 2004, Waggytail Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has rescued over 7000 abandoned dogs and even cats and kittens! Through the tireless work of our many volunteers and amazing fosters, we are committed to continuing to find forever homes for New York's homeless animals. Waggytail Rescue is completely volunteer-run and does not have a physical shelter location, instead we rely on the tireless, loving work of our fosters who care for our animals in their own home. Taking a scared and confused animal out of the shelter system and into a loving, private home gives them the opportunity to relax, recover and become the best version of themselves before adoption. Fostering dogs and cats that do not respond well to being in a shelter greatly increases their chance of adoption and avoids unnecessary euthanasia. Saving small paws in NYC since 2004 — we can't do it without fosters. Open your home and change a life.

Fostering is one of the most rewarding things you can do. You give love, patience, and a cozy place to stay — and in return, you get unconditional love and animal companionship, some laughs along the way, and the joy of watching an animal transform into a more vibrant version of themselves. Most stays last about a month, so it's a real commitment, but it doesn't have to be a forever one (although, we love when that happens!).

Getting approved is simple:

1️⃣ Complete our dog/cat foster application
2️⃣ Demonstrate an animal is permitted where you live (and everyone at home is on board!) and provide some home photos to serve as a virtual tour
3️⃣ Provide medical records for any resident pets (spay/neuter + vaccines required)

Calling all black cat lovers! This adorable pair is looking for a home. Don't miss out on them!

Arya and Sansa were rescued together with 3 other kittens. They seemed to be from different litters, but all were battling a bad case of URI and unfortunately, one got so sick and didn't make it. Since then, two of the bigger ones have been adopted and it's time for Arya and Sansa to find their forever home!

Arya and Sansa are typical kittens. They love to play, eat, sleep, and repeat! Both are very affectionate and human-oriented. Arya and Sansa make a great pair but are also fairly independent. They can either be adopted together or to a home with another young, playful cat who will keep them company.

Meet Vinny Van Gogh! 🎨🐾 This petite 2-year-old gentleman was left behind when his previous owners moved. Rescuers thought he was an outdoor cat (and gave him a handsome ear tip), only to realize he's a sweet, gentle soul desperate to return to life indoors.

Now that Vinny has been fully vetted and spent time with his loving Waggytail foster family, he could not be more ready and deserving of his forever home! 🖤

Help Ringo find his forever retirement home! 🐾❤️ Ringo is a good boy with a scruffy face, a signature snaggletooth smile, and a heart ready to love—he just needs someone to give him the second chance he so deeply deserves.

After being adopted from Waggytail nearly a decade ago, 9-year-old Ringo unexpectedly found himself back in rescue care. Starting over later in life isn't easy, but this resilient 20-lb Boston Terrier / Jack Russell mix has proven just how loyal and endearing he truly is.

⚠️ URGENT: Ringo needs a foster or foster-to-adopt home by October 1st.

He can be a little reserved with new faces at first — but once he feels safe, he forms a deep, devoted bond with his people. While he’s currently city-adjusted in Brooklyn, we strongly feel the suburbs would allow him to truly relax and thrive.

That underbite? Iconic. That merle coat? Stunning. That personality? Unmatched.

Max is the whole package: house-trained, doesn't bark, sleeps solo without a hint of drama, and ignores cats like they're simply beneath his notice. On walks he's all leash manners and neighborhood gossip-sniffing — no nonsense, no reactivity, just good vibes.

At home? He's a certified blanket-burrower, donut-bed connoisseur, and movie-night snuggle bug who'll melt into your side the second you let him — and at just 12 lbs, he takes up hardly any space while doing it. Perfectly petite, perfectly snuggly.

Max does have a soft spot (literally) — a unique paw that makes nail care extra sensitive, so he'll give you a polite little grumble if his feet need gentle handling. He's not being difficult, he's just telling you exactly what he needs — and honestly? We respect the communication. Because of this, he's looking for a mature, adult or older-teen household where his people let him set the pace for affection.

Meet Summer, a sweet 3-month-old kitten looking for a loving forever home!

Summer may be blind, but she doesn’t let that slow her down. Blind cats are incredibly adaptable and can play, explore, use the litter box, and enjoy life just like any other cats. Once Summer learns the layout of her home, she’ll confidently find her way around—and fill it with kitten cuddles, curiosity, and joy! Summer loves to be pet and will roll over to show her tummy when she hears that her foster mom is nearby. Her purring motor is always running and she can't wait to fill her forever home with love.

Summer is currently being fostered in a multi cat home (plus a dog!) and gets along with everyone.

Meet Mocha & Latte, adorable 3-month-old best friends with two perfectly different personalities. 💕

🤎 Mocha is the affectionate little shadow of the pair. He loves following his humans from room to room, being part of whatever you’re doing, and soaking up attention when playtime is over.

🤍 Latte is the confident explorer! He’s playful, curious, and a little more independent. He loves investigating everything around him and will happily come find you when he’s ready for pets and affection.

Both boys are playful, gentle, social, and great with other cats. They love chasing toys, wrestling, zooming around the house, and keeping everyone entertained.

🏡 Mocha & Latte can be adopted together OR separately, but if adopted separately, each must go to a home with a friendly resident cat or cat-friendly dog so they have a companion.

They are 3 months old, up to date on shots, dewormed, and microchipped.

Rio is a 12-year-old, 13-pound female mix who recently arrived in NYC from Alabama. She's a calm, affectionate sweetheart who gets along beautifully with people and other dogs, and still has plenty of puppy energy for her age.
Rio settled into her foster home right away and loves walks, cuddling, treats, and greeting dogs in the park. She knows how to sit, is housetrained, walks well on a leash, and happily goes into her crate or bed on cue. She's working on her leash skills and learning "drop it," and her forever family can help her keep building on this progress.
Rio enjoys being close to her people but isn't a Velcro dog — she's just as happy relaxing nearby as she is cuddling. She's looking for a low-key to moderately active home with another friendly, similarly sized dog to play with, ideally with someone who works from home.
Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, spayed/neutered and microchipped. Negative for heartworm disease and current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
