Founded by Andressa Furletti, Debora Balardini and Thiago Felix, the company started in 2011 with a public reading of the play Cerimônia do Adeus by Mauro Rasi. In 2012 Group .BR produced A Serpente (The Serpent) by Brazil’s most known and controversial dramaturges, Nelson Rodrigues with sold-out performances and a nomination to the 2012 Brazilian International Press Awards. In 2013, Infinite While It Lasts, Group .BR’s first devised work based on the life and work of Brazilian poet and composer Vinicius de Moraes landed on the bohemian bar Nublu in East Village. A second run of the show happened in 2014 held at Studio 151 for four weeks. The show was nominated to the 2014 Innovative Theatre Awards for Outstanding Choreography/Movement and to the 2014 Brazilian International Press Award. Inside The Wild Heart, an immersive theatrical experience based on the life and works of the Brazilian Jewish writer Clarice Lispector had a successful five-week run at the Immersive Gallery, in Williamsburg in 2016, and another five-week run in 2018 at the Aich Studio, a three-story house in Manhattan. The show had great reviews and received four nominations and earned Andressa Furletti an award for Best Actress at the 2017 Brazilian International Press Award. Other than its awarded productions, the company offers a variety of acting and dance workshops, readings, and signature events such as the theatrical Brazilian dance party Saravá!, the intimate Pão de Queijo Brunch and the Clarice's Hour (Hora de Clarice) in partnership with Moreira Salles Institute (Instituto Moreira Salles), and the Happy Hour Online with readings and conversations about Clarice Lispector in honor of her centennial.

ABOUT

Tom drives out from the city for his boyfriend’s funeral and discovers the family never knew their son was gay. His brother intends to keep it that way. What grows between them is stranger than a standoff: threats that slide into tenderness, a grieving stranger pulled deeper into a family that will not let him leave or let him be known.

Rodrigo Portella stages Michel Marc Bouchard‘s play on a ring of open earth that comes to stand for a whole country turning back on itself. Winner of the top prizes of the Brazilian stage, the production has built an acclaimed international trajectory, with performances in Montreal, Avignon, Paris, Brussels, a tour across France, Switzerland and Belgium, a successful season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and most recently in South Korea. It now makes its U.S. premiere at NYU Skirball on its way to London’s Barbican.

We are proud to participate in Fall Of Freedom (Fall Of Freedom) with this week’s Tertúlia em Cena, a nationwide cultural movement uniting artists, institutions, and communities in celebration of creative expression and solidarity.

Join us, as artists across the country organize exhibitions, performances, screenings, gatherings, and public actions.

Have you ever tried to be vulnerable on purpose?

This week’s theme: vulnerability and risk. In Choreographic Theatre, the greatest gift is vulnerability. If you accomplish your project too easily, there’s no conflict, no emotion, no tragedy. Failure and risk are where the truth leaks out, so we build exercises where vulnerability is the point.

Through voice and body, drawing on the Roy Hart vocal tradition and Pantheatre’s Choreographic Theatre, we explore it together in a plural, non-hierarchical space. If your training has only ever taught you to succeed, come practice risk with us. Led by Debora Balardini | Artist | Integrative Therapist.

This isn’t just for artists. No experience required, just presence and an open mind.

Wear something comfortable and bring water. See you in the room!

Tertúlia em Cena: Voice & Movement Laboratory

Produced by - NY’s only Brazilian theatre company

Rooted in the Latin American and Iberian tradition of the tertúlia — gatherings for exchange and reflection — this lab is an invitation to slow down and rediscover the body as a channel for transformation, both individual and collective, bringing a plural, non-hierarchical approach to the room.

Through movement, vocal exploration, and physical presence, we cultivate deep attention and relational awareness in a space that resists performance-driven expression and instead centers process, curiosity, and connection.

Open to emerging and established artists as well as the general public. No prior experience required — just presence and an open mind.
