Founded by Andressa Furletti, Debora Balardini and Thiago Felix, the company started in 2011 with a public reading of the play Cerimônia do Adeus by Mauro Rasi. In 2012 Group .BR produced A Serpente (The Serpent) by Brazil’s most known and controversial dramaturges, Nelson Rodrigues with sold-out performances and a nomination to the 2012 B

razilian International Press Awards. In 2013, Infinite While It Lasts, Group .BR’s first devised work based on the life and work of Brazilian poet and composer Vinicius de Moraes landed on the bohemian bar Nublu in East Village. A second run of the show happened in 2014 held at Studio 151 for four weeks. The show was nominated to the 2014 Innovative Theatre Awards for Outstanding Choreography/Movement and to the 2014 Brazilian International Press Award. Inside The Wild Heart, an immersive theatrical experience based on the life and works of the Brazilian Jewish writer Clarice Lispector had a successful five-week run at the Immersive Gallery, in Williamsburg in 2016, and another five-week run in 2018 at the Aich Studio, a three-story house in Manhattan. The show had great reviews and received four nominations and earned Andressa Furletti an award for Best Actress at the 2017 Brazilian International Press Award. Other than its awarded productions, the company offers a variety of acting and dance workshops, readings, and signature events such as the theatrical Brazilian dance party Saravá!, the intimate Pão de Queijo Brunch and the Clarice's Hour (Hora de Clarice) in partnership with Moreira Salles Institute (Instituto Moreira Salles), and the Happy Hour Online with readings and conversations about Clarice Lispector in honor of her centennial.

This Sunday, three organizations — one shared love for Brazil, its people, and its land. 🌿💚
, , and are coming together at OPA! Festa Junina to celebrate Brazilian culture, art, and the Amazon — and we’d love for you to join us.
OPA! Festa Junina is a full-day celebration of one of Brazil’s most beloved traditions, organized by Brazilian theater company . Tickets are available at www.group.br.com/opa (the link is in their bio).

🖼️ As part of the event, we are proud to present the exhibition “Acre in Celebration: Nature, Stories and New Futures” — a visual journey into the environment, biodiversity, and communities of Acre, Brazil.

From 3 to 6 PM, children and teens are invited to the workshop “Protecting Acre’s Wildlife”, led by Duda Mendes (), MoMA Teens-in-Residence and NYCLU Teen Activist. Through art, creativity, and conversation, participants will explore the rich biodiversity of Acre and discover why protecting the Amazon and its wildlife matters — for Brazil and for all of us.

You’ve heard of Carnaval — but did you know that every June, Brazil transforms into a month-long celebration? Communities come together for Festa Junina (June Party), a harvest festival woven from Indigenous, African, and Portuguese roots, alive in every corner of Brazil every June. Centuries of joy, community, and folklore — now coming to House of Yes in Brooklyn.

Three incredible bands brought the sound of Brazil to Brooklyn — and each one in their own completely distinct, completely electric way.

Opa! Carnaval 2026 is more than a party, it's a Brazilian cultural festival thal brings together different art forms. And as a theater company, performance is always present. Thanks to these incredible artists:

Two Blocos. One glittery collision. 🎭🦈🎺

At OPA! Carnaval 2026, something unexpected happened on the main stage — and honestly, it couldn’t have been more us.
Bloco do Agente Secreto crashed the party straight from the screens of Brazil’s most celebrated film of the year. O Agente Secreto — directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, shot in the streets of Recife, winner of Best Director AND Best Actor at Cannes 2025, and Brazil’s entry for the Oscars in 4 categories — is set during Carnaval during the Brazilian military dictatorship. So we decided to honor this Brazilian masterpiece making history.

Armando on the run. Cláudia in the shadows. Dona Sebastiana holding it down. Fátima, Laura, Elza. A shark (yes, THE shark 🦈). Perna Cabeluda terrorizing the dancefloor. A two-faced cat. Even a phone booth showed up. The whole cinematic universe descended on House of Yes.
Then Bloco Pernambuco walked in. 🔥

Every year at OPA!, we honor the extraordinary Carnaval of Pernambuco — its iconic rhythms, its legendary street characters, its singular soul. And at the center of it: our giant puppet of Clarice Lispector, the Brazilian writer who grew up in Recife and whose words have haunted and inspired us for over a decade. Our work with Clarice runs deep — readings, events, and two full theatrical productions: Inside the Wild Heart (2016 and 2018) and The Passion According to Janair (2025).

So when Bloco do Agente Secreto met Bloco Pernambuco, it wasn’t just two blocos or two tributes merging. It was cinema meeting literature through theater on the dancefloor. The dictatorship’s shadows meeting the most subversive thing of all: the joy of carnaval!

This is why we do OPA! 🇧🇷✨
