This year’s theme, BFL Moments That Inspire: 45 Years of Creative Healing, celebrates our 45-year commitment to innovative, survivor-centered approaches that empower individuals and families to rebuild their lives.

The evening will come alive with music by celebrated Deaf DJ Nico DiMarco, inspiring honorees, a raffle and a fabulous “Boogie & Donate” theme that will truly light up the night. Guests are encouraged to celebrate in style by dressing in their favorite decade—80s, 90s, 2000s, or 2010s—as we journey through the history of BFL, celebrate our accomplishments, and look toward an even brighter future.

On June 11, we proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of Freedom Village, a project more than 10 years in the making.

As Barrier Free Living marks 45 years of service to New Yorkers, this moment feels especially significant. I thought about our founder, Paul Feuerstein, who purchased a small schoolhouse from the City of for just one dollar in the late 1970s and transformed it into one of the first homeless shelters for people with disabilities. That vision laid the foundation for everything Barrier Free Living is today.

Freedom Village uniquely brings together affordable and housing, services for of , and for people with disabilities—all under one roof.

Thank you to our funders, government partners, board members, staff, residents, and community supporters. Your partnership and commitment made this vision a reality.
