What We Believe:
We believe in People Power: History is made not by people in high office or by great individuals but by the people when they swing into action. We fight for a society based on social justice, which will only be realized when people come to understand their true interests, organize, mobilize, and then take power into their own hands. That is why we dedicate ou
rselves to assisting in this process, joining with them in their struggles and engaging in the vital educational and organizational work. We believe in Fighting and Ending Racism: Racism is at the heart of the operation of our unjust society. People Power places front and center the fight against every manifestation of racism and anti-immigrant discrimination, and this includes fighting for the speediest redress of 500 years of white supremacy. We believe Women are Powerful and Must be in the Leadership: Women have been indispensable to every progressive movement for social change and have shown themselves to be outstanding organizers. On the other hand, many social justice groups have foundered on the reefs of male chauvinism. We encourage women's leadership within our organization and wherever we are involved in struggle, understanding it will be vital to the success of our cause. We believe in the Power of a United Working People with the Leadership of People of Color: People Power defends the interests of poor and working people against their No. 1 enemy, Corporate America, which along with the government which serves it, has fastened an iron grip on every aspect of our lives. We therefore consider it vital to maintain financial independence and reject funding or any contributions either directly from corporations or through their intermediaries, the foundations. We believe in Independent Politics: We oppose the two-party system, which is basically a one-party system. Politicians are more interested in serving themselves than in serving the people, and they understand that the key to the success of their careers is taking corporate money in exchange for doing the corporate bidding. We will support efforts and work to build an independent people's party. We will also support and organize on a grassroots basis: using direct action tactics, strikes, boycotts, petitions, and all other methods available to us in our fight for social justice.
