Green Park Gardeners NYC

Green Park Gardeners NYC Volunteer gardeners from the community working at Andrew Haswell Green Park (60th-63rd Streets) on the East River Esplanade in Manhattan. We welcome volunteers.

We practice environmental gardening, and emphasize native plants, for pollinators and for beauty. The GreenParkGardenersNYC work to protect, restore and enhance our local open spaces. We plant and maintain Andrew Haswell Green Park, located on the East River Esplanade from 61st Street through 64th Street. We also plant and maintain the GreenStreets off of the Queensboro Bridge Exit. We are committ

ed to using native plants to beautify open spaces in our neighborhood, educating the public and sustainability. We maintain a compost site and will gladly accept your food scraps to help make our garden grow. Our food scraps drop off is located opposite the dog run and is available 24/7. If you'd care to assist our efforts with your financial support, your tax-deductible donation can be made to Friends of the East River Esplanade (with GPGNYC on the memo line). Mail checks to Esplanade Friends c/o J. Ratner/ 525 E 86th St/ NYC 10028. Please include your return address for a receipt. Thank you.

Many NYC Pollinator Working Group garden(er)s represented here(although alas, not us -- next time.) Terrific article and photos -- so many people doing so much good work.

If we can help these creatures flourish in NYC, we can help them anywhere.

July 20 - Monarch laying egg on our common milkweed . . . and the egg. Can't get much fresher than that! It takes 3-8 days for monarch eggs to hatch -- we'll try to post updates, if the caterpillar is cooperative and neither the egg nor the caterpillar get eaten. :-( Thanks to photographer Freddie Miller for being in the right place at the right time and capturing the moment.
