Mission Statement

For more than 25 years, The Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis) has been at the forefront of social justice, educating, organizing and training to challenge inequity and champion opportunity for all. With a focus on Black and Latinx youth, BroSis is where young people claim the power of their history, identity and community to build the future they want to see. Through unconditional

love, around-the-clock support and wraparound programming, we make space for Black and Latinx young people to examine their roots, define their stories and awaken their agency. We educate:

As we wrapped up another summer of programming, intern supervisors took a moment to share how proud they are of their participants and the way they showed up throughout their internships.

Interns reflected on the lessons they learned, the skills they developed, and the moments of personal growth they experienced along the way.

To close out the day, participants presented handmade “paper plate awards” to their assigned peers. Each award featured a unique title inspired by the positive qualities and characteristics they had witnessed in their peer throughout the summer. 🏆✨

We’re so proud of this incredible group of BroSis alums and wish them the best of luck as they head back to their colleges and workplaces for the year ahead!

From Harlem to Hawaii, the methodology travels. This month, we hosted youth workers from the Lili`uokalani Trust for a sample Torchbearer training - building solidarity and dreaming up new ways to partner in learning.

Before touring our campus, participants experienced a demo Rites of Passage workshop where they explored the concept of American identity and how it impacts Black/Latinx youth in Harlem as well as Native Hawaiians in different but similar ways.

Our training institute exists to help people translate culturally responsive pedagogy for their own context in ways that are specific and intentional. In other words: Your members don't have to look like ours to benefit from a BroSis training.

Our members stepped up to the plate! ⚾️

We were excited to have 9 of our members participate in the Aaron Judge All Rise Baseball ProCamp, where they learned and practiced essential skills of the game, including catching, pitching, hitting, and more. It was a great opportunity for our members to learn from experienced coaches and have fun on the field!

Our elementary-aged members wrapped up their summer day camp programming by giving back to the community! 🥕🥬

As part of their final community project, members made vegetable soup using fresh greens grown right here in our garden. They packed each container, created labels, and added personalized notes for the recipients before delivering the soup to a local community fridge.

A wonderful way to end the summer - with teamwork, care, and a little nourishment for our community.

🏃🏾‍♀️ Next up on our 2026 team of staff runners: Meet Samantha, who is running her first ever TCS New York City Marathon with BroSis!

“Being on Team means I get to demonstrate love in action. I get to show love by supporting youth wellness and contributing to opportunities for them to thrive.”

For Samantha, the Marathon is a way to give back to the place that once poured love and care into her. As a BroSis member, Samantha felt the direct impact of having a safe space and saw firsthand the magic it can create. Now as a staff member, she is taking this opportunity to uplift and inspire her young people. Running has become her way of showing up for herself by caring for her mind, body, and spirit, while also modeling self-care for her members.

This summer 50 BroSis members spent 6 weeks at FIT NYC FIT Precollege learning, creating, and exploring future creative careers through hands on work in design, textiles, and fine arts. To celebrate the final day of this pilot, co-led by Gap, FIT NYC and The Brotherhood Sister Sol, our members were joined by Zac Posen, Executive Sponsor of the program. We’re so proud of our partnership to bring first-of-its kind opportunities for the young people we serve.

Some of our members recently visited Liberation Farm, a Black-owned vegan and organic farm, where they harvested garlic while learning about sustainable farming, food justice, and the importance of preserving Black-owned agricultural spaces.

Through hands-on experiences and meaningful conversations, our members witnessed how caring for the land can also mean caring for community through sustainable agriculture, education, healing, and collective responsibility. They even put their knowledge to the test by answering trivia on the history of enslavement in the United States, Black and Latinx activism, and environmental justice for the chance to win farm giveaways.

Creativity has been flowing all summer through every brushstroke and every frame. 🎨📸

In addition to sewing, our Savage Arts members have been exploring new ways to express themselves through painting and photography. They're building artistic skills while embracing authenticity, connection, consistency, and experimentation.

Recently, members took their creativity beyond the classroom with a photography excursion to Washington Square Park, where they captured portraits found inspiration through their own unique perspectives. They're now crafting digital spreads based on identity mood boards that will become part of a collaborative zine.

A bittersweet return.💛

The lessons learned through our International Study Program are lessons that can be taught in a classroom. They are experiences that reshape perspectives, strengthen identity, and remind our young people that history is not something distant, it lives within us.

Upon returning, our members crafted final projects that explored the moments that shaped them most, how the experience transformed their understanding of themselves and the world, and the lessons about Ghana they will carry with them from now on. Through collages, paintings, dance, cooking demonstrations, videos, and other creative works, they shared their life-changing journey with their families and friends. Their presentations showed that ISP’s impact extends far beyond the journey itself.
