Our Brotherhood members gathered for their annual spring retreat centered on a powerful theme: F.E.A.R. — Face Everything And Rise.

Throughout the weekend, members challenged themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally while exploring what it means to confront fear rather than avoid it. Through activities rooted in their core tenets of Mind, Body, and Spirit, members strengthened trust, communication, adaptability, and brotherhood.

A highlight of the retreat was a workshop that combined team-building challenges, reflection, music, and dialogue. Members navigated blindfolded activities that required them to rely on one another, then engaged in thoughtful discussion inspired by "Do Better" by Ab-Soul, exploring themes of accountability, healing, perseverance, and personal growth.

The lesson was clear: courage is not the absence of fear - it is the willingness to move through fear with purpose, integrity, and the support of a community that believes in you.

The weekend also included beloved Brotherhood traditions, from relay races, tug-of-war, soccer matches, and karaoke competitions to their biannual campfire gathering. As members shared reflections and gratitude, their words spoke to the deep bonds they have built and the impact of a year spent growing together.

We are proud of the young men who continue to rise to challenges and support one another.

Our Wellness Ambassadors recently stepped away from the city's hustle and bustle for their annual Spring Retreat!

Honoring this year's cohorts, Reflecting On Our True Selves (ROOTS) and Reach | Inspire | Support | Empower (RISE), members explored the theme "Rooting Down, Rising Up" and what it means for personal wellness, community care, and self-discovery.

Throughout the retreat, Ambassadors reflected on their wellness journeys by writing personal oaths, contributing to a collective "connective tissue" tree, and strengthening the bonds that make this community so special. Around the campfire, members and facilitators shared heartfelt reflections on the friendships they've built throughout the year and the connections they hope will last a lifetime.

Together, they honored where they've been, celebrated where they are, and envisioned where they're headed - actively creating the future they want to see.

As we wrap up another impactful school year and prepare for an exciting summer ahead, the BroSis staff took time to step away from our daily routines and invest in something just as important: our team.

Over two days, we came together to reflect on the year behind us, celebrate accomplishments, debrief challenges, and set goals for the future. We also strengthened our connections through team-building activities, including escape rooms that put our problem-solving skills to the test and friendly competition at the Lawn Club.

From lawn pong and co****le to putting darts and ladders, there was no shortage of laughs and team spirit. These moments allow us to build stronger relationships with one another, which help us better serve our community every day. 💙

This year’s After School Enrichment Program’s Showcase centered around the theme, “To Persist: The Art of Rebellious Joy.” Throughout the year, members explored what it means to find joy, resilience, and self-expression in the face of challenges. Through class discussions, creative exploration, and personal reflection, they examined this theme through the lens of their own experiences and their place within the broader history of social justice movements.

Drawing inspiration from both their individual stories and the legacies of those who have fought for equity and change, members created original works that reflected their voices, perspectives, and artistic growth. The showcase brought together participants from all of our teen programs, including visual art, dance, photography/media, poetry, theatre and music production, to share their work with friends and family. The event celebrated not only the creativity and talent of our members, but also the power of art as a tool for connection, reflection, and collective storytelling.

Last week, we introduced the first of the four core themes that have guided BroSis for more than 30 years: ‘Community’.

This week, we continue the series with ‘Knowledge’.

At BroSis, knowledge starts within - knowledge of self, knowledge of history, and knowledge of the world around us. We empower young people to think critically, ask questions, and lead boldly in their communities and beyond.

In this short film, BroSis youth members and alum share how learning and self-discovery help shape who they are becoming.

“What is your legacy?”

Last week, we celebrated our new community mural in the BroSis stewarded and managed Frank White Memorial Garden. Over 200 hands came together to bring this piece to life - a living story of love, legacy, and the power of coming together. This mural is a tapestry of many voices. 🎨🌱

Guided by the vision of our College, Career, & Wellness Facilitator, Rae Stokes, this piece honors the stewards who built our garden from the ground up and the generations who continue to nurture it. The mural reminds us that legacy lives through all of us.

Thank you to our young people, staff members, and neighbors of all ages who brought their ideas and brushstrokes to the wall. This is our story; created by our community, for our community.

Last week, we celebrated the end of the school year and kicked off summer with our annual Unity Day!

Members enjoyed an afternoon filled with face painting, basketball, karaoke, video games, music, and plenty of summer treats - including cotton candy, Icees, grilled burgers, hot dogs, and more.

One of the biggest hits of the day was the dunk tank, where members got the chance to dunk staff members into the water - a crowd favorite that brought lots of laughter and friendly competition!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's celebration such a success. Events like Unity Day remind us how special it is to come together as a community, celebrate our accomplishments, and create new memories.

We're excited for all that's ahead as our summer programming gets underway! ☀️

Since our founding, four core themes have guided everything we do at BroSis: Community, Knowledge, Positivity, and Future.

Community means showing up for one another. It means that we are interconnected and intertwined in shared humanity. It means creating spaces where every young person feels seen, supported, and valued - not just for who they may become, but for who they are right now.

In this first short film of our series, BroSis youth members and alum reflect on what it means to rise together. 🤍

“BroSis is where I found some of my dearest friends—friends who became family. This is where I found community. This is where I found my calling.”

At this year’s Voices Gala, Frank Antonio López shared those words and later went on to recite an original poem called “Sun Rise”.

An alum of BroSis and now one of our Arts Coordinators, Frankie continues to invest in the next generation of leaders and artists. He is also a co-founder of the Peace Poets, whose poetry and music have built community and inspired connection across the United States and in more than 35 countries around the world.

Thank you, Frankie, for sharing your artistry and your voice with us. We are proud to celebrate the leaders who come through our doors and return to help others rise.
