Are there any homes in Haiti made of raw earth bricks? There are many benefits to this. They regulate indoor temperature, have great insulating value, naturally non-combustible. It also has a great environmental benefit: Concrete construction around the world accounts for about 8% of the carbon dioxide emissions.

Construction is booming in Dakar, where unfinished apartment blocks tower over most streets, their exposed concrete bricks a dull uniform grey.
