Students for Education Reform- California (SFER CA) develops college students into grassroots organizers who fight for educational justice in their communities. Our experiences and stories of overcoming educational inequality are undeniable and validate the demand for transformative change in our K-12 system. We fight for high academic standards, access to quality teachers and the right for famili
es to choose the best school for their child, especially in communities that have historically been left behind. SFER CA serves students across nine college campus chapters in the state. Northern California:
Contra Costa College
Sacramento State University
UC Berkeley
UC Davis
Southern California:
California State University, Dominguez Hills
East Los Angeles College
UCLA
UC Riverside
Whittier College
As recent K-12 graduates, SFER members are uniquely positioned to advocate for educational justice because they have personally witnessed the shortcomings of the public education system in their communities. SFER students share their undeniable stories and experiences of overcoming educational inequity in order to demand change. SFER students are united in the belief that it is unacceptable that the richest country in the history of the world does not prepare all students for success, and that it is time to fix America's broken public education system. SFER’s vision is that one day, Americans will choose to offer universal quality public education. For the first time in our nation’s history, all students and communities will have access to a public education worthy of their dignity, talents, and limitless potential. SFER envisions:
• A system of thriving accessible and quality schools that gives each child – regardless of race or socioeconomic background – the opportunity to succeed in college and in life.
• A school system where teachers and parents hold high expectations for students and work relentlessly to ensure no student falls through the cracks.
• A system where schools in which every family can choose a school and academic path that is right for their child.
