Today is World Su***de Prevention DayĀ šŸ¤ AĀ day that holds many different meanings for each of us. For some, it's a time of reflection and action; for others, especially those who have lost loved ones or those who have experienced their own su***de attempt, it can bring a range of emotions.

We want to take a moment to honor and hold space for all. Wherever you are and whatever feelings come up for you today, you don't have to navigate this journey alone. šŸ¤

Let's continue to support one another, with compassion, empathy, and understanding. Together, we are stronger. ✨

Please welcome Grace O'Connor to the Peers to Pillars podcast!

By day, Grace is a dedicated high school special education teacher in the City of New York teaching 10th and 12th graders. When she's not in the classroom, she'sĀ channelling her creative energy as an avid athlete, painter, and writer. Grace's work and art reflect her commitment to fostering hope, healing, and inspiring her community. šŸ’š

Grace lost her brother to su***de when they were both in high school and in today's episode she takes the time to walk us through her grief journey while sharing the profound ways this loss has shaped her life since (spoiler: there are many unexpected moments of joy!) Grace emphasizes the need for open conversations about mental health and the hope that can emerge from tragedy, leading her to create the Dan O'Connor Foundation to honor her brother's legacy. šŸ’š

As founder of the Dan O'Connor Foundation, Grace leads a spiritual mission focused on educating communities about su***de prevention and uplifting lives through scholarships for students who are making a difference in their own communities.

You can find Grace on Instagram atĀ  and her artĀ , and follow along as she rolls out her foundation Ā šŸ’š Podcast link in bio!

When we speak our truths in safe, supportive spaces, shame begins to lose its grip.

Your story matters. Your voice is powerful. And you are not alone. šŸ’›

When we think of seasonal depression, winter often comes to mind. But did you know that su***de rates actually peak in the spring? Researchers aren’t entirely sure why, but possible factors include:

šŸ”¹ Increased energy levels after winter, making it easier to act on feelings of despair
šŸ”¹ Social pressure to feel "better" as the world brightens
šŸ”¹ Biological changes linked to daylight and mood regulation

If you're struggling, please know that you are not alone. Healing doesn’t follow the seasons—and neither does support. We're here for you, always, eager for you to reach out to us.Ā šŸ’™

Today brings uncertainty. We simply do not know what is to come and that can feel heavy and overwhelming. But please know that you are not alone in this.

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Let it out. Repeat.

Together, we’ll face whatever comes next, one step and one breath at a time. šŸ¤

The new year doesn’t have to come with pressure to overhaul our lives. Here are 5 gentle goals to remind ourselves that self-care and kindness to ourselves matter just as much as big plans:

1.Ā I will give myself grace when I make a mistake.

2.Ā I’ll schedule rest as intentionally as I schedule everything else.

3.Ā I’ll pause to appreciate kind words and compliments instead of brushing them off.

4. I’ll prioritize moments that bring me peace, no matter how small.

5. I’ll remind myself that growth takes time—and I’m allowed to go at my own pace.

Start small. And know that we're here when you need extra support along the way. šŸ’›
