NJ Senate Elections & a Scenic Swing ⛳️

Fellow members,

You’re invited to an afternoon where democracy meets divot strategy.

Join us for the NJ Senate Elections with a view—and possibly leave with more than just your civic duty fulfilled. You might go home with new friends, a few lucky golf balls, or even an award or two (no promises, but history has been… optimistic).

📍 Venue: Galloping Hill Golf Course, 3 Golf Drive, Kenilworth, NJ 07033
📅 Date: May 30, 2026 (Saturday)
🕐 Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (or until approximately 5:00 PM, depending on how lively the discussions—and putts—get)

We also anticipate an official announcement from Comelec Chair Ron Hepburn, so expect a mix of order, excitement, and the occasional political “fore!”

Come for the elections, stay for the camaraderie, and leave with stories worth retelling at the next meeting—or the next tee-off.

RSVP kindly to Secretary Barbara and settle dues with Treas/COB Ria.

See you there—where every vote counts, and every swing might too.

Think you’ve got a sharp eye for Senate legends? 👀

Take a guess—how many JCI Senators are in this photo? Count wisely… some smiles may be hiding decades of leadership. 😉

Correct answer wins bragging rights (and maybe more 👀).
Send your guess via DM to Pres. Stevenson—no peeking, no recounts!

JCI USA Annual Meetings are always “an experience.”

This past weekend in Missoula, Montana made that clear once again—an opportunity to step beyond routine and reconnect with purpose, alongside leaders committed to something greater than themselves.

It was especially meaningful to be present as New Jersey JCI Senate President and Primary Advisor to JCI New York—roles that bring both responsibility and perspective. Adding to the moment, President Bruce, US JCI Senate President, addressed JCI USA during the Board Meeting—grounding the room with a reminder that service and vision define true leadership.

Congratulations all around—to 2025 NP Bethanie for “Take the Opportunity” - (What an exemplary year!) and 2026 NP Josh for “Together We Build,” themes that set the tone for impactful leadership.

Kudos as well to 2025 NVP Jubert Paul for finishing a strong year, to Chuck Kayvin for his service as 2025 State President, and to welcoming Arbee King into the role as 2026 State President. Shout out also to Connie for keeping things together with JCI New Jersey.

And of course, the Eastern Institute, shout out to Jane Amend brought its signature touch with a classy toast celebrating milestones achieved—a fitting tribute to a year defined by growth, camaraderie, and leadership that continues to build forward.

An afternoon of meaningful dialogue and global perspective—truly honored to be invited to a meeting with Macky Sall, former President of the Republic of Senegal and candidate for Secretary-General of the United Nations. A statesman who brings both experience and humility to the table, Mr. Sall’s approach is refreshingly grounded: listen first, learn deeply, and lead with purpose.

His commitment to engaging civil society underscores a clear understanding that the future of global governance must be inclusive, forward-thinking, and sustainably anchored—not just in policy, but in people.

As the conversations unfolded, one thing became evident: shaping the next chapter of the United Nations is not just about institutions—it’s about inspiration, collaboration, and the courage to evolve with the times (with a touch of diplomatic patience, of course).

It was also awesome to reconnect with fellow JCI Senators Edson A. Kodama, Arrey Obenson both known for their long-standing ties to the inner workings of the United Nations and Pedro Zaraza. Always a pleasure when insight, experience, and camaraderie find themselves in the same room.

Proud to represent the New Jersey JCI Senate in spaces where dialogue meets possibility—and where even the grandest global visions begin with a simple, sincere conversation.

The New Jersey JCI Senators didn’t just take a photo at MAI 2026 — they captured a legacy in a single frame.

There’s something timeless about a family photo, especially when that “family” is built on years of leadership, service, laughter, and unwavering camaraderie. At this year’s Mid-Atlantic Institute, what stood before the camera was more than a group — it was a living testament to connection across generations, where seasoned wisdom meets fresh energy, and every smile carries a story.

Dressed not just in style but in purpose, New Jersey showed up with elegance and presence. Each Senator in that frame represents a journey — chapters written in meetings, milestones, and moments that shaped not just individuals, but an entire community of leaders. And yet, beyond the titles and achievements, what truly shines through is the bond: genuine, enduring, and unmistakably strong.

It’s the kind of photo that speaks without words — of friendships that feel like home, of legacies that continue to grow, and of a spirit that refuses to fade. A snapshot, yes — but also a statement: that New Jersey doesn’t just participate, it leads, uplifts, and leaves a mark.

At MAI 2026, the New Jersey JCI Senators didn’t just gather… they stood together — proud, poised, and powerfully united.

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of John Shelby Wells, a beloved New Jersey JCI Senator whose presence touched us all in ways words can scarcely capture. We are reminded that beyond the titles and accolades was a remarkable individual—one who embodied service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others.

Though grief weighs deeply upon us, so too does gratitude—for the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, and the countless lives forever changed by their kindness and dedication. As we mourn this great loss, we also celebrate a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of leaders to serve with purpose, lead with heart, and live with meaning.

John Shelby Wells, formerly of Hopatcong, NJ and later of Metuchen, NJ, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026. He was 81 years old.

Shelby was born in Nashville, Tennessee, but spent most of his teenage years in Chicago. He later earned his GED while serving in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division.

He continued his education at Ramapo College, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies. Professionally, Shelby owned gas stations, was a partner in a sports merchandising company, sold insurance, and worked in a paper factory. He ultimately found his true calling at Drive-Master, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring due to Parkinson’s disease. There, he helped disabled individuals achieve greater mobility through customized van conversions.

Shelby was deeply involved in his community. He served as a Councilman in Hopatcong and dedicated over 20 years to the Hopatcong Little League. He was also heavily involved with the New Jersey Jaycee Organization and served as State President from 1978 to 1979. Outside of his civic contributions, Shelby had a lifelong appreciation for the arts, whether attending local theater, concerts, or live music. He loved sports—especially his Chicago teams—and was a devoted fan of the Rolling Stones.

Shelby is predeceased by his parents, Luman and Joanna (née Young) Wells, and his sister, Melinda (née Wells) Troop.

He is survived by his sons, Bryce Wells and his wife, Tricia Thornton-Wells, of Lincoln, MA, and Colin Wells and his wife, Melissa Impink Wells, of Lyndon, VT; their mother and his former wife, Margaret Hurley Wells, of Lakewood, NJ; and his sister, Luanne Wells Shoemaker of Gainesville, GA.

He is also survived by his fiancée, Debbie Herman of Metuchen, NJ, with whom he shared over 20 years of partnership; his stepson, Andrew Adams, and his wife, Amanda Lyra-Adams, of East Rutherford, NJ.

He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Greyson, Aubie, Mia, Jackson, Griffin, Aberdeen, and Alisson.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home. Eulogies and Words of Remembrance will be shared at 2:00 pm, and the Jaycee Creed will be read aloud thereafter. Services will conclude with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks loved ones to donate to Camp Jaycee (https://www.campjaycee.org/donate) or to a military charity in memory of Shelby.

Happy Birthday to our very own Gary Duell! 🎉

Another year wiser, sharper, and still managing to outshine the candles on the cake. If life were a meeting, you’d definitely be the agenda, the highlight, and the reason everyone showed up.

Here’s to more laughs, great stories, and moments that deserve their own standing ovation. Keep leading, inspiring, and proving that age is just a number… a very well-managed one at that. Cheers! 🥂

Our JCI Senator podcaster is gaining serious ground 🎙️

Fresh from the NJ JCI Senate Winter GMM & Social, she’s out here collecting more than just sound bites—she’s capturing reactions, camaraderie, and the occasional personal history… all through the power of her mighty mini microphone.

Small mic, big stories. Careful—if you see her coming, you might just become the next episode. 😄

Florida sunshine just hits different ☀️

Region 2 didn’t just show up — we radiated. From early morning sessions to late-night fellowship, the Florida vibe matched the energy of the US JCI Senate: warm, bold, and impossible to ignore.
