The IWEC Foundation empowers female entrepreneurs across the globe by granting them unique networking, educational and mentoring opportunities.

International Women's Entrepreneurial Challenge (IWEC) is an initiative of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of Manhattan (New York) and FICCI/FLO (the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organization) supported by the US Department of State. IWEC was established in 2006 with the first IWEC Conference held in Barcelona in 2007 featuring three awardees from India. Subsequently, in 2008 & 2009 IWEC Conferences were held in New York City and New Delhi. Three new awardees were invited from chambers in Africa in 2008 and three awardees from Central Asia in 2009, bringing the number of awardees up to 15. Each year IWEC will continue to expand by inviting another chambers in other countries to participate and by moving the Annual Conferences to new cities.

The U.S. Consulate General in Barcelona has officially named its Multi-Purpose Room in honor of the late Ambassador Ruth A. Davis, IWEC's co-founder and Founding Chairwoman.

As the first African American U.S. Consul General in Barcelona (1987-1991), she left an incredible mark on the city, including securing the new consulate building and supporting the 1992 Olympics. IWEC Board Member Nuria Basi and Co-Founder Adela Subriana were honored to attend the ceremony and represent the foundation as we celebrate her trailblazing legacy in diplomacy and global business. 🌍✨

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Nuria Basi to its our Board of Directors. A longtime supporter of the Foundation, Nuria has been actively involved with IWEC since its inception in 2007. Based in Barcelona, she was also a close friend and trusted colleague of our founder, Ruth A. Davis.

Nuria brings a distinguished and accomplished career to the Board, along with extensive experience serving on numerous corporate, nonprofit, and educational boards. Her leadership, global perspective, and commitment to advancing women’s entrepreneurship will be invaluable assets to IWEC.
