Tzu Chi USA Northeast Region

Tzu Chi USA Northeast Region The foundation focuses on four major missions: charity, medicine, education, and humanistic culture.

Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation is an international humanitarian organization which provides material, financial, and spiritual aid for those who need it in the community. Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental, humanitarian organization with Special Consultative Status in the United Nation's Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). The foundation also engages in international d

isaster relief, bone marrow donation, community volunteerism, and environmental protection. “Tzu Chi” means “compassion and relief.”

Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 in Hualien by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen. From the first 30 supporters, housewives who saved two cents from their grocery money each day to help the poor, the foundation has grown to nearly 10 million volunteers and supporters in over 50 countries, and has provided international relief work in over 70 countries to people suffering from disasters such as the Southeast Asia tsunami, Myanmar cyclone, and earthquakes in Turkey, Pakistan, Sichuan China, Haiti and Chile. Dharma Master Cheng Yen believes that the lack of altruistic love for others has been the root of many problems in this world, but with sustained kindness, mercy and giving, harmony and peace can be achieved. Thus, the foundation’s guiding principle is to “help the poor and educate the rich” – to give material aid to the needy and inspire love and humanity in both givers and receivers. Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Youth leadership begins with giving young people opportunities to see how compassion can become action. 💙

At the Tzu Chi Center in New York City, Tzu Chi USA encourages youth to engage with UN side events, explore humanitarian work, and learn how Tzu Chi supports refugees and communities around the world.

The hope is that these experiences spark something lasting. An inspiration to return home ready to serve, whether by volunteering with Tzu Chi, helping at school, or finding new ways to give back in their own communities.

🌱 By opening doors for young people today, we can help nurture compassionate leaders for tomorrow.

Helping our neighbors see a little clearer. 👁️💙

On July 19, Tzu Chi Long Island Branch hosted a free vision clinic. Thanks to the spacious setup on the lower level, everything ran smoothly, from check-in to eye exams and frame fittings. In total, the team served 23 local residents, providing 23 eye exams, 22 pairs of custom glasses, and 1 prescription.

Among the 21 volunteers on-site were several young faces who jumped right in, learning basic eye care procedures from our doctors and helping keep the day running seamlessly.

A big thank you to our medical team and volunteers for giving their time to care for our community’s vision!

Teamwork, determination, and community spirit were on full display as the newly formed Tzu Chi Long Island Dragon Boat Team made its debut at the North Hempstead OPA Dragon Boat Festival! 🚣

Made up of 20 parents, students, and teachers from Tzu Chi Academy, Long Island, the team competed together for the very first time and proudly earned second place in their division's finals. More than a race, the experience strengthened bonds, built confidence, and embodied the spirit of unity and perseverance that defines Tzu Chi.

Congratulations to our incredible paddlers on an inspiring first competition. We can't wait to see where this journey takes you next!

Every week, compassion is served one warm meal at a time. 💙

On July 20, three dedicated Tzu Chi USA volunteers delivered and distributed 115 hot meals to care recipients through the Manhattan Family Service Center’s weekly hot meal program. We’re especially grateful to the volunteers who transported the freshly prepared meals from Flushing to Manhattan, making this service possible.

The kindness didn’t stop there. As the volunteers arrived, several care recipients stepped in to help carry the meals into the service center, while many also placed their spare change into Tzu Chi’s bamboo banks, turning gratitude into generosity and keeping the cycle of love growing.

Together, these small acts of compassion create lasting ripples of kindness. 💙
