This week, the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board had the privilege of stepping inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Musical Instruments department for an unforgettable performance.

Our own David Freeman, who serves on the CAB and, by day, is an educator at the Met, graciously hosted CAB members and alumni for an exclusive tour of the Musical Bodies exhibit (on display through September 27) and a private concert in the musical instruments galleries.

David and fellow musician, Mustafa Bhagat introduced us to a classical Indian raga performed on sitar and drums, an experience one CAB alum described afterward as "simply sublime."

It's a powerful reminder of how music connects us across cultures, time, and bodies of knowledge. Deep gratitude to David, the Met team, and everyone who made this evening of art and sound possible.

This week the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board had the privilege of supporting, WNYC's community forum series on Affordability, food justice advocacy, neighborhood bodegas, and policymakers coming together to discuss the growing challenge of food affordability in New York City.

As Community Advisory Board members, we are proud to support New York Public Radio's mission of amplifying community voices and creating meaningful conversations that inform, connect, and inspire action.

Hearing from leaders, including the NYC Commissioner of Social Services, alongside community members who courageously shared their lived experiences, was a powerful reminder that real solutions begin by listening to the people most affected.

This conversation is just the beginning. We look forward to the upcoming forums across the remaining boroughs and encourage everyone to participate, share their experiences, and help shape the conversations that matter most to our communities.

Upcoming forums:
• August — Queens
• September — Staten Island
• October — Manhattan
• November — The Bronx

Stay tuned for registration information, locations, and additional event details.

The Community Advisory Board remains committed to supporting New York Public Radio's mission of connecting communities through trusted journalism and ensuring every voice has the opportunity to be heard.

This week, the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board officially kicked off the 2026–2027 term with an inspiring first meeting at the station.

It was a privilege to meet with Stephanie Clary, Editor-in-Chief of the WNYC and Gothamist newsroom, and learn more about the important work being done to deliver trusted, impactful journalism that informs and connects communities across New York. The conversation reinforced the vital role public media plays in amplifying diverse voices, fostering civic engagement, and ensuring our communities have access to accurate, meaningful information.

We're excited for the year ahead as we continue the mission of the New York Public Radio Community Advisory Board, serving as a bridge between New Yorkers and NYPR, listening to community perspectives, and helping strengthen public radio's impact across the communities we serve.

We look forward to our continued collaboration with NYPR staff throughout the year to support it's important work.
