HAPPY SFS WEEK TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE! Today kicks off our regatta weekend. We are so grateful to our community and supporters - with your help we have surpassed our goal and are at over $670,000 raised! Rather than enjoy the accomplishment, we are pushing ourselves to a new goal of $700,000! We know we can do it! Our Sailing for Scholars auction is open! A few highlights:

🎤 Four tickets to Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden on October 24, Section 109.
⛵ A 2027 cruise for two aboard Sea Cloud Spirit, a three-masted luxury sailing ship.
🌿 Three nights in an Arenal Pool Casita at Nayara Gardens in Costa Rica, with breakfast for two.

Your bids support HRCS’s youth development and adaptive sailing programs, helping students build confidence and leadership and making sailing accessible to more people.

Sailing for Scholars shines a spotlight on the people and programs that make HRCS special. This year we’ll take you behind the scenes to see how we pulled together to meet the challenge of Dyckman Marina closing. Watch below to meet Rylee, an Inwood Sail Academy student who recognized that in adversity, there lies an opportunity for growth. One week from today — the Sailing for Scholars Gala kicks off HRCS’s annual week-long fundraising event. Join us in the New York Yacht Club’s iconic Model Room for an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and community as we honor Kristen Berry, Director, North U and American Sailing Performance. Meet the teams racing in this year’s Sailing for Scholars Regatta (part one)! ⛵ They’re competing on and off the water, racing while raising funds to support HRCS’s youth and adaptive programs.

We’ve got some old favorites returning and are excited to have three alumni teams competing! We’re also thrilled to welcome U.S. Blind Sailing Association to SFS for the first time, with our first team of blind and visually impaired sailors racing alongside a sighted guide.

Last week, HRCS Sail Academy students toured SUNY Maritime’s beautiful campus and took to the water in RS Quest dinghies! ⛵️

Several Sail Academy alums now attend SUNY Maritime, and one even stopped by to say hello during our visit. It’s especially meaningful for our students to see familiar faces and fellow Sail Academy sailors making their way through college.

With college application deadlines approaching, visits like these help students explore their options and imagine what comes next. We’re here to support them through each step, from discovering new possibilities to submitting applications.

We tried to make an ASMR-style unboxing video for our NEW JIBS, but let’s be real: we work at a boathouse next to a helipad, surrounded by staff, students, members, and the public. We’re also a group of coworkers who genuinely enjoy one another’s company—and we had some hard-hitting questions to discuss while we worked. What ended up happening with daylight saving time, for example?

Anyway, here is our best attempt.

As always, our ops team is hard at work keeping the boats in working order—and now outfitting them with brand-new jibs. A huge thank you to the ops team and our volunteers for making it all happen! We literally couldn’t do it without you.
