We’re so thrilled to announce our inaugural Composer-in-Residence: Jake Landau! This is an exciting new initiative in conjunction with our historic 50th anniversary season, in which a selected composer will partner with the chorale for a three-year cycle, dedicated to the creation and performance of contemporary choral music and the amplification of LGBTQIA+ artistic voices. During each year of the residency, Landau will compose a new SATB choral work specifically for The Stonewall Chorale to premiere. In addition to generating new works for the Chorale, the residency is intended to contribute new repertoire to the broader choral canon and establish a sustainable framework for The Stonewall Chorale to commission and support composers in the years ahead, advancing a commitment that has been part of the choral’s mission since its founding: creating space to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices through music.
Jake Landau, born in 1995, is an American composer whose work spans contemporary classical music and musical theater. His music has been performed by the New York Philharmonic, Houston Grand Opera, and Broadway performers in venues including Carnegie Hall, Birdland Jazz Club, and the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. Landau studied composition at The Juilliard School with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Corigliano and later earned a master’s degree with First Class Honours from Oxford University.
