Two weeks ago, I found myself in the emergency room and a few hours later was having my second endometriosis excision surgery before turning 30. They removed 32 lesions, just three years after my first surgery in May 2023, when 73 were removed.
But the numbers are only a small part of what this disease actually looks like.
In the month before surgery, I could barely eat. I lost 12 pounds. I couldn’t stand for long periods of time. By the end, I was just trying to get through each day.
That is the part of endometriosis people don’t always see. It’s an invisible illness that can slowly take pieces of your life away while, from the outside, you may still look completely fine.
It’s missing being a maid of honor in your childhood friend’s wedding because you suddenly need surgery. It’s trying hormone after hormone and dealing with what they can do to your mind and body. It’s wondering what your fertility will look like. It’s planning your life around flare-ups. It’s never knowing if or when you’ll need another surgery.
And then there is what was actually happening inside my body. My re**um was stuck to my cervix. Endometriosis was involving my bowel, bladder, ureters, cervix, abdominal wall, uterine artery area, hypogastric nerve area, and multiple areas throughout my pelvis.
So many people with endometriosis are trying to work, show up, make plans, have relationships, build families, and live normal lives while fighting something inside their bodies that no one else can see.
I am beyond grateful to Lora Liu , Yaniv Larish , Dr. Valery Dronsky and their teams for taking such good care of me. 🙏 Endometriosis can cross organs and medical specialties, and my surgery is exactly why multidisciplinary care matters. Having the right specialists working together meant they could address the disease wherever they found it while protecting the organs, nerves, and structures around it.
Thank you everyone who has checked in, prayed, or sent a get well surprise. This happened so quickly I couldn’t tell everyone beforehand, but every bit of love has meant so much. ❤️‍🩹
