I finally met in person one of my idols: Suzanne Simard! A wonderful researcher that I’ve been following for decades. Inspired by her work I’m able to more meaningfully educate our volunteers about the importance of ecological connection and stewardship. And today she confirmed that street trees are no different from trees in a forest. It’s all connected!! When the Forest Breathes is a science driven yet deeply personal exploration of how forests function as interconnected living systems. Building on her groundbreaking research into tree communication and Mother Trees, Simard argues that forests are not just collections of individual trees but complex cooperative communities sustained by underground networks and cycles of regeneration. By learning how forests breathe we can rethink our relationship with OUR environment!! A must read! 💚💙

It was great to be at this book launch at Columbia University. In How Sustainability is Transforming the World of Management the authors emphasized the importance of using metrics to track their environmental and social impact in order to compare performance or even hold themselves accountable to stakeholders. Make tangible what was once a vague commitment. Kudos to the authors for clearly demonstrating how measurement frameworks are essential for creating a sustainable world. 💚💙

I had the pleasure of speaking with this great group of future community leaders .ywhi.jccharlem Besides talking about community engagement, action and advocacy we went out to do a community cleanup! We asked for their feedback and heard they were feeling happy to do it, satisfied knowing they made an impact, feeling confident and connected, and so on. Today I had the pleasure of joining these amazing women, environmental activists and leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean. The 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) is taking place at UN headquarters until March 19th and there are many side events planned too. Today we talked about the importance of strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers. Sadly more women have become victims of abuse in recent years… we must change that!

Mushrooms! We had so much fun Fungi Festival. We learned how to grow our own Oyster mushrooms and left with a big bag of it. I had no idea we must sterilize everything all the time! They had so many interesting presentations and great food too. We ate and I it was everything delicious.
