Music doesn’t have to change the world to change something.
Sometimes, it changes the way we see ourselves, connect with others, and experience the moment we’re in.

New research is exploring what actually happens when music becomes a tool for connection, identity, and social change, from Kinshasa to Colombia and beyond. 🌎

At WAAM, we’re interested in whats behind the music: What works? Why does it work? And how can we use what we learn to create greater impact?

Music is more than something we listen to. It can be a powerful tool for supporting our minds, bodies, and emotional wellbeing.

Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that uses music and musical experiences to support individual goals.

From hospitals and rehabilitation settings to schools and community programs, music therapy can meet people where they are and provide meaningful ways to connect, express, and heal.

At WAAM, we believe understanding the impact of music is an important step toward making its benefits more accessible to the people and communities who can benefit from them.

A note from camp! 📬

This summer, West End House Camp piloted the “We Are All Music” (WAAM) elective! Five campers dove into the power of music and emotion, learning how songs shape our moods and even writing their own original track by the end of the week. 🎶 We’re thrilled with the success of this pilot and look forward to expanding the WAAM curriculum to more campers next summer! ⛺️

“Music is a part of development, and it is essential in adolescent development for finding identity.”

WAAM Music Impact Council Member and internationally recognized music therapist, Meredith Pizzi, breaks down how music shapes the adolescent brain — building neural connections, supporting growth, and doing what nothing else can quite do. 🎶🧠✨

“What if we were able to give music as a resource to teenagers, who are facing unprecedented mental health challenges, how to use music therapy informed skills not as treatment, but as prevention" 💛 -- Dr. Channing Shippen (at the recent Power of Music Benefit with )

Music Impact Council (MIC) member, Dr. Shippen reminds us why WAAM exists: to make music-based mental health support accessible for all.

When we give young people tools for expression, healing, and resilience, we give them a chance to thrive 🎶

Help us achieve our mission this holiday season ✨️
