We were able to auction off two experiences at Amplify for folks to attend RAGTIME on Broadway, thanks to support from the production, our friend lyricist Lynn Ahrens, and our Chief Program Officer Judy Yin-Chi Lee who is also the French Horn player in the show's orchestra pit! Thanks to Charlie Deull, Laurel Dutcher, Susan Zohn, and Alexis Pesquin for participating. We are so happy you enjoyed the show!

The April First Takes event, Sweet Harmony, was a success! We love our longtime partnership with Circle In The Square Theatre School for the wonderful vocalists they bring us. Thank you to all the participants and observers who showed up to support the program.

Our next First Takes event will take place in August. Applications will open soon, and we hope to see you there!

First Takes is a curated reading session and master class that gives opportunities to composers, lyricists, conductors, orchestrators, copyists, and instrumentalists to generate and rehearse new music in a supportive and unpressured environment. Offered three times a year (April, August, and December), First Takes creates a pipeline for emerging Maestras and Broadway veterans to be in dialogue with each other through music and community.

"Here’s a BTS shot for Maestra helmed MRS. DALLOWAY: A New Musical. We got to go into the studio late last year and just celebrated the albums release! 🎉 Pictured is Maestra Lindsey Augusta Mercer (who wrote Book, Music, Lyrics and Orchestrations) with fellow Maestra, Christiana Cole, who stars and sings as Clarissa Dalloway on the album."

Maestra Cynthia Meng is music directing a show in Atlanta and reached out to Maestra Music Director Amanda Wansa Morgan, co-Program Head of our Regional and Affinity Groups, who lives there. We love seeing connections like these. Congratulations to these two Maestra Moms at Work!

"When Kyler England, Gabriel Mann, and Adrianne Gonzalez (AG) formed the band The Rescues in 2008, writing musicals seemed like a far-off dream. Now, the band has been nominated for two Tony Awards for the musical THE LOST BOYS: Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations, the latter with music supervisor Ethan Popp.

AG was particularly proud of the band’s nod for Best Orchestrations on their first-ever musical. “We actually started making those orchestrations from the beginning as we were writing the songs. We were trying to build this world,” she said.

'To be even seated next to all these other people that were nominated for orchestrations when it’s the very first time we’ve done it on this level is so humbling. And as a woman of color, I cannot tell you how meaningful it is even to have a seat at this table.'"
