Accent Dance NYC (www.accent.dance) is looking to expand its governing leadership to guide the organization into its next level of growth. Established in 2018, we are a fast-growing organization that is seeking new Board Members who wish to make a positive impact through dance education and multicultural concert dance performances.  We are seeking outgoing and enthusiastic candidates who are passionate about giving youth and emerging choreographers and artists opportunities for creative expression, driven to create an equitable society and who have a dynamic skill set that can help push our mission forward.  

Board members should be willing to engage actively in all of our fundraising activities, including in connection with our annual gala fundraiser (in 2026, taking place on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Ailey Citigroup Theater in Manhattan.  Next year’s gala date is not yet set).

Through a unique collective of multidisciplinary and multicultural artists, Accent Dance NYC provides a dance-based educational program serving schools and arts education organizations in New York City and neighboring areas which bolsters children’s cognitive skills, discipline, learning and communication, while professional choreographic initiatives build bridges among artists from all dance disciplines and backgrounds. Creating new works through a lens that magnifies the creative process and the use of movement as a common language, Accent Dance NYC has commissioned award-winning choreographers and collaborators, and has performed on stages throughout New York City and beyond. Since 2018, Accent Dance NYC has reached over 45,000 school-aged children with its dance programming.

We’re thrilled to announce that acclaimed dancer and choreographer Ingrid Silva will join this year’s SEEN gala on Saturday, October 3rd as both a guest speaker and to premiere our newly commissioned work through the NEXT program.

The event will feature Silva’s work and other performances by our professional dance company, this year performed in the Ailey Citigroup Theater, followed by a lively reception, including cocktails, live music, and an accessible dance party led by our teaching artists, for those who would like to participate.

Ingrid Silva is a classically-trained ballet dancer and activist. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she began her training at Dançando Para Não Dançar, a social project in the Mangueira favela. She performed with the Dance Theatre of Harlem for nearly two decades. Ingrid was the first Afro-Brazilian to be on the cover of Pointe Magazine and also appeared on the cover of Vogue Brasil. In 2025, she was invited to speak at the United Nations for International Women’s Day. She is the founder of  & co-founder of Blacks In Ballet and Dancers & Motherhood.

Highlights from our audition this week with Ingrid Silva, the recipient of this year’s NEXT choreographer commissioning program that is its fourth year.

We received over 160 submissions to audition for our new commissioned work and wish to express gratitude for all of those who applied and/or auditioned! Each artist in the room brought a special quality to the innovative and energetic movements of this special choreographer and artist.

Rehearsals will start in August with the first studio showing on September 10 at Paul Taylor Studios and an official premiere on October 3 at Ailey Citigroup Theater. Mark your fall calendars!
