Our Hispanic Heritage Month educational performances continued this morning at this beautiful celebration at PS 246 in the Bronx. We loved every minute bringing so many new dances from Spain and the Latinx diaspora to this long-time school partner.

We are so grateful to everyone who joined and supported our mission at our annual gala celebration last Saturday.

We were so happy to share beautiful performances by choreographers Ingrid Silva Pedro Ruiz and Analia Carreño & Luis Ramirez We also heard from our students, our Education Director and Associate Artistic Director Kim Johnson, Ingrid Silva and Board member Crystyn Wright and enjoyed joyful dance workshops during the after party led by Analia Carreño & Luis Ramirez Jason Herbert Dance and Kaylan Bradford.

Today we spotlight Kevin Ortiz Lemus who will be dancing on Saturday with Elisa Toro Franky in an excerpt from Pedro Ruiz’s So Proudly We Hail. Here, he is shown dancing in Ruiz’s Mar Y Tierra.

Kevin Ortiz Lemus is a Guatemalan dancer, actor, model, and educator based in New York City. He began his dance training in Guatemala at the age of 16 and continued his professional development in New York through Peridance and independent studies with Igal Perry.

His career includes performances with Ballet Hispánico, Ballet Eloelle/Grandiva, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, Brooklyn Ballet, Staten Island Ballet, and various independent dance projects. His work has taken him across the United States, Japan, Mexico, Spain, France, and beyond.

As an artist, Kevin is passionate about movement as a means of connection, cultural expression, and storytelling. He is committed to creating spaces where dance can inspire, empower, and connect people from diverse backgrounds.

Today we spotlight dancer, choreographer and changemaker Erv Works Dance

Will is an East Coast native. He earned a BFA in dance from Montclair State University. He also holds an MFA in dance from the University of Illinois. He has trained with Joffrey Ballet, EMIA, Rennie Harris, Jacobs Pillow, and Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet.

As Artistic Director of his company Erv Works Dance, he has presented choreography at the Dumbo Dance Festival, the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Recent works were choreographing for Kemar Jewels Dance Film project, headlining the Global Black Pride event, where Kemar’s work was presented after the keynote speaker, Former President Joe Biden, Battery Dance Festival, Maria Torres’s Sol El Bario, and the Joyce Theatre in partnership with Future Dance Festival, 92nd Y, and The Martha Graham Dance Company.
Recent accomplishments include performing in Cabaret at theKitKat Club on Broadway, co-choreographing an immersive theater show (The Still Point), in San
Francisco, and performing/ choreographing in the UnitedKingdom for Gerrard Martin Dance. He was recently named Dance Lab NY by Josh Prince’s fall cycle choreographer, Dance on the Lawn’s emerging commissioned choreographer, and has set work on Dimensions Dance Theater of Miami, Accent Dance NYC & Brooklyn Ballet.

Today we highlight the artistry of Gabrielle Sprauve who will be appearing with our company in the premiere of Between Two Heartbeats this Saturday.

Gabrielle Sprauve is a New York City based dancer, educator, stager, and choreographer. Born in Queens, NY and raised in Savannah, GA, she joined Ballet Hispánico in 2017, originating and performing roles in works by celebrated choreographers including Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Michelle Manzanales, Bennyroyce Royon, Eduardo Vilaro, Andrea Miller, Edwaard Liang, Omar Román DeJesús, Pedro Ruiz, and Gustavo Ramírez Sansano. Gabrielle has appeared as a guest artist with Traverse City Dance Project, performed with SF DanceWorks, is a founding member of PARA.MAR Dance Theatre, and is a resident corps member with The San Francisco Opera. Her work extends into television and film, with credits in the movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, TV series’ Lioness, The Gilded Age, and The Morning Show, and Commercial Advertising Campaigns with the notable brands Athleta, Andrew Marc, Vingt SeptMagazine, and Rebel Magazine.
Gabrielle has performed at renowned festivals including Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the AmericanDance Festival, and Vail Dance Festival. She starred in the PBS special Doña Perón by AnnabelleLopez Ochoa, filmed at The Kennedy Center, and appeared in the CBS special An Inside Look at Ballet Hispánico by Adriana Diaz and Analisa Novak. Her title role in Sor Juana by Michelle Manzanales at New York City Center and her principal role in Buscando a Juan by Eduardo Vilaro at the Metropolitan Museum of Art both garnered features in The New York Times.

Witness this beautiful duet from “So Proudly We Hail” by acclaimed Cuban choreographer Pedro Ruiz at our annual gala this Saturday, Oct 3. It will be danced by the exquisite Colombian ballerina Elisa Toro Franky (upon whom this duet was created) and her delightful partner Kevin Ortiz Lemus from Guatemala.

You also will hear Elisa speak about her artistic journey from Colombia to the United States and how these two identities have manifested in her life.

We also will premiere our new work Between Two Heartbeats by Ingrid Silva, and enjoy a tango duet with Analia Carreño & Luis Ramirez

At Accent Dance NYC, we are committed to multiculturalism and bring that alive for our students, audiences, dancers and choreographers. We can’t tell you how excited we are to see multiculturalism in dance celebrated in Netflix’s new movie, Best of the Best. It spotlights collegiate competitive Bollywood dance and the story of friendship, identity, culture and the power of dance. Enough said. Now go watch it!
