We are delighted to announce this year’s winner of Accent Dance NYC’s NEXT commissioning program, INGRID SILVA. Ingrid will create her new work for the company in August, with a studio showing on Thursday September 10th at the Paul Taylor Studios, and a premiere at our Gala on Saturday October 3rd at the Ailey Citigroup Theater. We also anticipate the work being shown next Spring 2027 as part of our professional Spring Season again at the Ailey Citigroup Theater.

The audition for Ingrid’s work will take place on June 16, 2026, 10am-1pm, by invitation only.

Choreographer Silva and Accent Dance NYC are seeking professional dancers to create a new work for the company.

Ingrid’s choreography will require dancers with strong ballet technique, as well as strong contemporary and cultural dances. As a Brazilian artist, Ingrid draws inspiration from her heritage, and elements of Brazilian culture will influence her movement vocabulary. The audition will begin with a ballet barre warm-up led by Ingrid, followed by learning choreography. The choreographic work will not be performed on pointe.

BIPOC and immigrant artists are especially encouraged to apply, though all are welcome.

Audition Date:  June 16, 2026, 10am-1pm.

The audition will take place in NYC. The location will be shared with those invited to attend the in-person audition.

New York City’s Asian American and Pacific Islander population has grown by more than 30% in the past decade, making it the city’s fastest-growing immigrant community, with more than 1.5 million residents. This month of May, in honor of AAPI Heritage Month, New York City students will experience that history firsthand.

We’d love to have you as a school partner where students will witness beautiful performances in celebration of AAPI month and also engage directly with the performers, exploring traditions passed down through generations and demonstrating how dance preserves cultural memory and familial history.

The program draws from Japanese folklore, Indian mythology, Chinese and Tibetan cultural traditions, and Filipino folk dance. Through live performance and participation, students experience these art forms firsthand and learn how dance serves as a living expression of culture, identity, and tradition across generations.

As part of our Q&A series, we sat down with some of our choreographers, performers and teaching artists to share their insights and career advice.

Here is a clip in which choreographer talks about the business of choreography and .toro.franky discusses how to manage rejection over the course of a dancer’s professional life.
