Don't Walk By

Rescue Alliance is a collaboration of faith-based organizations working together to restore the well-being of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.

We dream of a city where everyone belongs. Rescue Alliance organizes Don't Walk By (DWB), an annual winter outreach to help the hurting and homeless neighbors in New York City. Every Saturday in February, DWB mobilizes volunteers to engage our neighbors in need and invite them to receive compassionate care, plus opportunities to find an alternative life. The Rescue Alliance includes The Bowery Mission, New York City Relief, The Salvation Army, and Hope for New York.

These fresh socks make a world of difference for those experiencing homelessness - distributed in backpacks on the street and at our HQ, alongside meals and resources.

Rescue Alliance staff and volunteers witnessed something beautiful at Don’t Walk By 2026. We were out on the streets, offering care and resources to our unhoused neighbors.

We served over 400 individuals with hot meals, hygiene kits, medical support, and safe places to stay the night. What stood out most were the small moments - conversations that reminded each person they’re seen, valued, and loved. These connections are what drive us in creating lasting impact beyond just one day. 💙

We couldn’t have done this without every partner who contributed during the outreach. Thank you for stepping in, showing up, and believing in a more equitable future for all across NYC. 🤝

What an amazing day at Don’t Walk By 2026! We were on the streets, reaching out to our most vulnerable neighbors. 🙏

Thanks to the support of all our partners, donors, and volunteers, we served over 400 individuals during the outreach - providing a hot meal, CityPaks, Bombas socks, hygiene kits, medical supplies, and free health care. Nurses and doctors joined us, offering thorough appointments for everyone present. We also helped connect folks to safe places for a good night’s rest.

One of our favorite aspects of the day was being a part of the small moments, those little conversations that connect us, where individual stories came alive. Our friends felt valued, loved, and reminded that we’re here to walk with them on their journeys. 🤝

This event was more than a one-time effort, it’s a spark for year-round care. Thank you to everyone who gave their time, love, and support. Stay tuned for more DWB updates and gratitude shout outs soon! ❤️

We’re so excited - Don’t Walk By 2026 is just a couple days away! This Saturday, February 28th, we’ll be out, serving our neighbors in need across lower Manhattan. From hot meals to health services, we're coming together as one community.

With churches, partner organizations, and Rescue Alliance volunteers, we’ll be reaching out to those who are most affected by the recent snowstorm. This is a chance to connect, serve, and build lasting friendships along the way. 💙

On this day, churches and communities from across the city unite to serve lower Manhattan, offering hot meals, winter gear, health screenings, shelter connections, and genuine care. Community meals will be provided at our host site, The Salvation Army on 14th Street, where neighbors can find warmth, dignity, and a place to belong.
