Good people, we’re proud to finally drop the official highlight reel from our Juneteenth celebration, made even more special as we honor 35 incredible years of KowTeff African Dance Company carrying culture, community, and tradition forward!
Thank you to everyone who pulled up, poured in, and made this space what it was. This is Black joy. This is Black culture. This is us.
This felt like a family reunion, a Brooklyn block party, and an ancestral homecoming all at once. The rhythm of the diaspora was alive, from the beat of the drums to the movement of the dancers, from the joy of our children to the presence of our elders. That’s what community feels like. That’s what healing looks like.
Special shout out to our amazing community partners, Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation, Jumbies, Echo, and Positive, for supporting the curation of this celebration. Deep gratitude to for bringing the vision alive through graphic artistry, and to cbimagez for the beautiful captures and highlight reel.
On a day when this nation reflects on 250 years of Independence, we’re holding tight to the kind of freedom that looks like us. Gathered together in Bed-Stuy, dancing and singing in the sun, laughing loud, hugging hard, and celebrating the beauty of Black life.
