KowTeff African Dance Company

08/18/2026

In honor of Marcus Garvey’s birthday, KowTeff celebrates the power of knowing who we are, where we come from, and what we can build together. 🌍✨

Garvey reminded us: “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” 🌳

In that spirit, we’re proud to announce the upcoming online release of Many Roots, One Future: A NYC Community Resource Guide for Black/African Diaspora Youth, curated as part of our 35th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. ✊🏾

More than a resource list, this guide is a roadmap to culture, connection, opportunity, and empowerment—bringing together resources in the arts, education, mentorship, wellness, leadership, entrepreneurship, and more. 📚

As we celebrate 35 Years of KowTeff, we’re honoring our legacy, nurturing our roots, and helping build a future for generations to come. ❤️

Stay tuned for the drop! 🔔

❤️🖤💚 What a time. What a vibe. What a celebration!

Good people, we’re proud to finally drop the official highlight reel from our Juneteenth celebration, made even more special as we honor 35 incredible years of KowTeff African Dance Company carrying culture, community, and tradition forward!

Thank you to everyone who pulled up, poured in, and made this space what it was. This is Black joy. This is Black culture. This is us.

This felt like a family reunion, a Brooklyn block party, and an ancestral homecoming all at once. The rhythm of the diaspora was alive, from the beat of the drums to the movement of the dancers, from the joy of our children to the presence of our elders. That’s what community feels like. That’s what healing looks like.

Special shout out to our amazing community partners, Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation, Jumbies, Echo, and Positive, for supporting the curation of this celebration. Deep gratitude to for bringing the vision alive through graphic artistry, and to cbimagez for the beautiful captures and highlight reel.

On a day when this nation reflects on 250 years of Independence, we’re holding tight to the kind of freedom that looks like us. Gathered together in Bed-Stuy, dancing and singing in the sun, laughing loud, hugging hard, and celebrating the beauty of Black life.

Tap in and relive the energy!

Happy Juneteenth from the First Family of KowTeff! ✊🏾🖤❤️💚

This year, as we celebrate 35 years of KowTeff, we gather under our theme: Many Roots, One Future.

For the African Diaspora, this means that while our roots stretch across nations, cultures, and histories, our destiny is shared. Our many roots ground us in strength, struggle, and brilliance, and our one future calls us to move together with purpose, vision, and unity.

And this year, the energy feels different. Just like the city rose up behind the Knicks — believing, pushing, and winning together — Juneteenth reminds us of that same spirit: resilience, faith, and the power of community. Victory doesn’t happen overnight. It is built over generations.

Our ancestors fought for freedom. We celebrate the accomplishments of today.
And together, we prepare the next generation to carry the legacy forward.

Join us as we honor history, celebrate the present, and build the future through culture, dance, music, and joy. All free of charge!

MERCH ALERT!!!

🏀🔥When legacy and victory align, wear the story. 🔥🏀

As New York celebrates the Knicks Championship Parade today 🧡💙, KowTeff is celebrating a championship season of our own.

35 years of African Diasporic culture, edutainment, and legacy.

To honor both milestones, we’re dropping an exclusive limited-edition KowTeff x Knicks tribute tee.

Only 50 shirts made.

A timeless tee that reminds us of what's possible when vision meets discipline, adversity becomes strength, and passion for the craft is sustained by the relationships, loyalty, and community built over decades.

This one is for the city that raised us.
For the culture that shaped us.
For the Knicks fans who stayed loyal through every chapter.
And for the KowTeff family whose love, support, and commitment have carried this legacy for 35 years strong.

Sn**ch yours up THIS SATURDAY at our 16th Annual Juneteenth Celebration while supplies last.
