This is Bernardine, one of our dedicated ward assistants at the Fistula Care Centre.

Here, she is sharing a warm moment with one of our patients, something she naturally does every day.

Whenever she has a little free time, Bernardine stops to talk, offer comfort, and check if our patients need anything. Her kindness and presence help make their stay more reassuring and compassionate.

At Freedom From Fistula Madagascar, our work goes far beyond treating obstetric fistula. We care for every woman as if she were part of our own family.

Huge thanks to our team in Madagascar for sharing IANY’S JOURNEY TO HEALING

For 10 years, she lived in silence and shame after a difficult labor that claimed her baby’s life and left her with a fistula. She withdrew from her community, losing hope little by little.

Everything changed when she met Marivelo, a patient ambassador who helped her reach the Fistula Care Center in Tamatave. Here, she received dignity, kindness, and exceptional care from Dr. Breen and the entire team.

✨ Today, she is healed.Her smile, her strength, and her pride have returned as she prepares to rejoin her community.

Her story reminds us that hope is real — and healing is possible
