Knowing what to do in those critical first moments can save a life. Street Corner Resources teamed up with Harlem Hospital for a hands on Stop the Bleed course at King Towers, giving participants and our community real skills they can use when it matters most to Stop The Bleed!

Twelve-year-old boys should be…

…playing pickup basketball at the park.
…racing bikes with their friends.
…grabbing snacks from the neighborhood bodega.
…arguing over whose team is better.
…learning new tricks at the skate park.
…playing football until the streetlights come on.
…collecting sneakers.
…laughing too loud.
…making memories that become family stories.
…being kids.

Instead, Jacob “Kai” Freytes will never do those things again.

His parents will never hear him run through the front door after school. They’ll never watch him become a teenager, graduate, or grow into the man he was meant to be.

That is the true cost of gun violence.

This isn’t just another headline. It’s another childhood stolen. Another family forever changed. Another neighborhood where parents wonder if it’s still safe to let their children play outside.

Think about the 12-year-old in your life. Your son. Your grandson. Your nephew. Your little cousin. Your neighbor.

Now imagine their story ending today.

No family should have to.

Our children deserve parks filled with laughter, not memorials. They deserve futures, not funerals.

Enough.

We all have a role to play. Mentor a child. Check on a family. Speak up. Invest in our youth. Support the organizations doing the work before another child becomes another name.

Because if we do nothing, the next 12-year-old could be someone we know.
