This month and every month, we celebrate the voices, experiences, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ older adults in our community. Through storytelling, connection, and shared experiences, we’re proud to create spaces where people can show up as themselves and be heard.💙

Earlier this month, we welcomed spring with an afternoon full of stories, creativity, and connection! We partnered with NYU Net Impact to host a card writing event for older adults across the Life Story Club network. More than 25 volunteers joined us to write heartfelt notes, draw pictures, and share plenty of laughter along the way. It was a joyful reminder of how meaningful small moments of connection can be. We look forward to more events like this in the future!

It’s Volunteer Week, and we’re celebrating the incredible community that makes so special. Throughout the year, volunteers help at our in-person celebrations, co-facilitate weekly clubs, support our newsletter, and take part in card-writing activities that brighten older adults’ days. However you get involved, it’s a powerful way to build connection across generations and make a real impact.

At Life Story Club, older adults share their stories, build meaningful relationships, and lead with the strength of their lived experiences. Storytelling is not just reflection, it is connection. And connection is essential to our well-being.

We are on a mission to reduce isolation and foster a sense of belonging, because everyone deserves to feel valued, listened to, and remembered.

This Black History Month, we’re honoring Reverend Samuel, “Rev”, and the love he brings to our community. When Rev was unable to attend in person gatherings due to his health, our team organized a special visit to his apartment so his group could bring the club to him. During the visit, the husband of one of his fellow members, a jazz musician, played songs from several of Rev’s favorite artists, from Louis Armstrong to Miles Davis. The room was filled with music, laughter, and deep connection, and Rev was moved to tears more than once.
Touched by the experience and the love from his group and Life Story Club, he wrote “The Life Story Club of Love,” which he later shared with his weekly Thursday group. His words are tender, joyful, and full of heart, just like him. You can listen to his story in the Life Story Club Library. We are so grateful to share his voice and to have him in our community.

At Life Story Club, we know that legacy is carried through memory, tradition, humor, perseverance, and love. Each conversation adds depth, perspective, and connection to our gatherings.

Throughout this next week, we’ll be highlighting moments from storytellers in our community that reflect strength, joy, and impact across generations. It is a privilege to listen and learn together.
