Happy National Donut Day! 🍩❤️

We’re honored to carry on a tradition that began during World War I, when Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” served fresh donuts to soldiers on the front lines, offering comfort, care, and a reminder of home.

We’re sharing that same spirit of kindness by distributing donuts to veterans at the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System in Manhattan, as well as neighbors at community centers, workplaces, and other locations throughout Greater New York.

Thank you to every shop and business who donated these sweet treats for us to pass out today!

Grateful for every opportunity to brighten someone’s day and continue a legacy of caring for our neighbors - one donut at a time. 🤗

From the moment Gloria's mom turned to the Manhattan Citadel soup kitchen for support, Gloria found a place to learn, grow, and shine through our creative arts program. 🙌

Today, she’s in college pursuing a degree in early childhood education, giving back by teaching younger students music theory in the same ministry that shaped her.

As part of our Rhythm program, Gloria has excelled not only in music but also in drama, winning awards in Star Search competitions year over year. 🥇

She reminds us why we do what we do - investing in youth, empowering families, and creating a future where every child can thrive. We’re proud to be a part of Gloria’s story.

What a beautiful day at Esther’s Table! 👑💜

This past weekend, women from across greater New York gathered for a time of fellowship, encouragement, and inspiration at our Women’s Ministries Brunch.

From meaningful conversations and activities to uplifting messages and plenty of smiles, it was a reminder of the strength found in community and faith. Every opportunity to build one another up is a gift.

These individuals help make our programs and services possible - volunteering in food pantries and soup kitchens, supporting youth and senior programs, serving in our churches, and strengthening neighborhoods across New York. We cherish every opportunity to pour back into the women who give so much to others.

We love our GNY women, true pillars of the community. 💐

When Talisha first arrived at the Westbury Community Center, she had no musical background - but today, at just 13, she’s a remarkable euphonium player and a beautiful vocalist. 🎶

Talisha has already performed at several public concerts, captivating audiences with her talent. She’s not only grown as a musician but learned patience and confidence through the creative arts program, skills that also help her excel in school. 📚

We’re grateful to know Talisha and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this bright, young artist!

Meet Arlene, a committed volunteer who’s been part of our soup kitchen at The Salvation Army Harlem Temple Corps for over a year. 💒

Arlene told us, “I like that we get to come in early and make preparations for the food. I enjoy doing this because I know that people are getting fed. I don’t get to always see their faces but it doesn’t matter because I know that this work is about giving back. This is worthwhile.”

We’re grateful for Arlene’s dedication and joining us in our daily mission to uplift local communities with compassion and care. ❤️

We’re thrilled to share a powerful moment from our benefit concert at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY.

James Dorce, once a student at the Westbury Community Center, now a New York Staff Band cornetist, performs a stunning solo. 🎺

James’s journey began at Westbury - today he gives back, mentoring kids and shaping their futures. Every dollar raised supports centers like Westbury, ensuring that impact continues.

Join us in celebrating James and the next generation of musicians! 🫶

Thank you to the New York Staff Band for once again joining us at our Nassau County Benefit Concert! 🎶 Here’s an excerpt of an incredible piece, a song they performed on their recent Australia tour.

This annual concert raises vital funds for our community centers across Long Island, providing food, youth programs, summer camp opportunities, and more.

The acoustics in the Cathedral of the Incarnation were simply breathtaking. Stay tuned - more concert updates coming soon! 🎺

Since 2014, Sylvia has been a dedicated volunteer and a welcoming presence at the Bushwick Community Center. 💒

After retiring, she stepped into volunteering, sharing, “I came from customer service, so I’ve always enjoyed working with people. I help register guests, schedule food pantry appointments, and support the soup kitchen in any way I can.”

One of her favorite parts of volunteering? “Working with the other volunteers who make you smile and laugh.” 😊

We’re grateful for Sylvia’s continued dedication - 12 years of service helping neighbors access the resources they need, right here in BK.

Last week, we came together at the Centennial Memorial Temple for a GNY Music & Creative Arts concert, "Legacy." Our brass, percussion, dance, timbrels, and theater groups gave stunning performances, filling the CMT with beautiful sound. 🎶

We celebrated milestones: the 40th anniversary of the GNY Youth Band’s Scotland tour, and the 20th season of the Youth Chorus. Alumni from the '86 Youth Band and '05 Youth Chorus joined for a special number, adding their own rich legacy to the night.

We also thanked Lt. Colonels Raphael and Sandra Jackson as they prepare for their next appointment. Their leadership has shaped us, and we’re so grateful. We appreciate our Creative Arts staff for investing in every student’s journey, making evenings like this possible! 🙏

This past weekend, we were honored to celebrate a special group of graduates from our Pathway of Hope program.

These families and individuals have shown tremendous determination as they’ve navigated challenges - whether it’s securing employment, finding stable housing, or accessing critical resources.

We're thankful for the Pathway of Hope staff, who invest their time every day into helping our graduates succeed. Through personalized case management, job coaching, and partnerships with housing and legal organizations, they help participants build strong, lasting foundations. 🤝

Together, we’re breaking cycles of poverty and creating brighter futures across greater New York.
