A Gathering of the Tribes provides a platform for diverse, traditionally underrepresented artists and writers — amplifying fierce, dynamic voices that challenge, inspire, and reflect the complexity of our collective cultural fabric. Established in 1991 as a multi-cultural arts organization (and incorporated as a 501 C3 nonprofit in 1993), Tribes is committed to honoring and memorializing our founder, Steve Cannon’s life and legacy. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Chavisa Woods, A Gathering of the Tribes is presenting literary events, and publishing new poetry, fiction, and more at www.tribes.org

A Gathering of the Tribes Presents
Fall of Freedom October ‘26 MIXTAPE
October 2nd, 3rd, + 4th
www.tribes.org

For the second consecutive year, A Gathering of the Tribes stands in solidarity with artists nationwide, answering Fall of Freedom’s call to unite on October 2nd, 3rd, + 4th in creative resistance, countering fascist repression and the censorship of free expression. Our democracy is under attack. Dissent is criminalized. Institutions and media are being reshaped into instruments of propaganda. The erosion of our civil liberties feels endless, while human rights are continuously violated. Governance is no longer by and for the people, but increasingly serves to further enrich those in power. That is why, in this moment, art matters more than ever.

Visit tribes.org to experience our on-line exhibition, “Fall of Freedom October ’26 MIXTAPE,”, which will take over the entire site from 10:00 AM FRI, October 2nd, to 10:00 PM SUN, October 4th. A new volume featuring literary and visual works will be released each day, creating an evolving stream of work throughout the three-day call to action.
