FOLLOW CHRIST | Luke 9:23 | Michael Edwards
What does it really mean to follow Jesus? In this message, Pastor Michael Edwards brings the word God placed on the heart of Bible Believers Ministries this year: Follow Christ. Not a pastor, not a denomination, not a politician. Jesus alone.
Drawing from John's Gospel and Luke 9, Pastor Michael shows why Jesus is worthy of our full surrender. He is God manifested in the flesh, the Lamb of God, the Light of the World, the Good Shepherd, the Resurrection and the Life, and the only way to the Father. Then he turns to the cost of discipleship: denying yourself, taking up your cross daily, and refusing to look back once your hand is on the plow. He also shares his own testimony of how his family came to Christ in 1987.
"If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23, KJV)
In this sermon:
• Why we follow Christ: because of who He is (John 1:1, 14; Philippians 2:6-7)
• Jesus reveals the Father: "he that hath seen me hath seen the Father" (John 14:9)
• The call of Christ: "Follow me" (Matthew 4:19)
• Self-denial is daily: sanctification is not a one-and-done thing (Luke 9:23)
• All rivers do not lead to the same sea: Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)
• Stop following politicians and celebrities as if they were saviors
• The cost of following Jesus (Luke 9:57-62)
• You can't move forward with your eyes in the rearview mirror
