A Haitian-led global health non-profit dedicated to building dynamic & sustainable community health and education programs in rural Haiti. capracare, Inc.

We’re creating the new Haiti by providing access to medical care, mental health, health education, and professional development services to rural communities regardless of their ability to pay. was founded in April of 2009 to address many of the health dilemmas faced by students in the rural community of Fonfrède, near Les Cayes, Haiti’s third-largest city. As a result, we now have several programs that help the people of Fonfrède to build a sustainable healthcare system. capracare’s President & CEO and its founder is Jean Pierre-Louis, MPH who grew up in the town where capracare is located. Under Jean's leadership, capracare continues to thrive as the leading organization dedicated to developing sustainable community health programs, professional development and training, and social services to a population of 20,000 men, women, and children living with Fonfrède. capracare’s mission is to promote health change by reducing health disparities through individual acts of courage.

Go Back to Haiti: A Mission to Build Haiti 🇭🇹

In this video, Jean recalls arriving in the U.S. in 1990 and facing the xenophobic taunt, "Haitian, go back home." Instead of breaking him, it fueled a vision. He resolved to return on his own terms; armed with knowledge to make an impact. He earned a Public Health degree and mobilized a coalition of professionals to build sustainable local healthcare in Haiti.

Ending TPS forces a chaotic realization of the very rhetoric Jean overcame. Sustainable progress doesn’t come from forced deportations; it comes from investing in the capacity of the Haitian people to shape their future.
