FRIDAY JUNE 19, 4PM
The Salon de Virtuosi, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India New York, is delighted to present a special East Meets West virtual concert on Friday, June 19 at 4 PM EST, featuring performances by three remarkable young talents representing the Western and the Indian classical music traditions.
The Salon de Virtuosi is deeply grateful to Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty, Consul General of India New York, for his kind support in making this virtual event possible.
Representing the West will be the exciting American cellist Alexander Hersh, who will be performing from Chicago. Representing the East will be the talented traditional Indian musicians Deepsankar Bhattacharjee, sitar, and Unmesh Banerjee, tabla, who will be performing from India.
The concert will include a thrilling program for solo cello that was specially recorded by Alex for the Salon de Virtuosi, as well as a moving performance previously recorded by Alex featuring a contemporary work by the Italian composer Giovanni Sollima. You can read more about Alex HERE.
In addition, we are delighted to present a virtuoso performance of Raag Chhayanat specially recorded for the Salon from India, featuring Deepsankar Bhattacharjee, sitar, and Unmesh Banerjee, tabla. Please read more about Deepsankar HERE and Unmesh HERE.
Through the miracle of modern technology, the concert will end with an exciting finale featuring a virtual "East Meets West" collaboration between cello, sitar and tabla, who will perform a new piece, entitled Anyatha, composed by Samir Chatterjee, President of Chhandayan Music Center, especially for this concert, for which we are deeply grateful.
