Today, we celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of Michael Webb, co-founder of the International Youth Leadership Institute, on his birthday. Michael’s tireless dedication to education reform, particularly for students of color, has left an unforgettable mark on our hearts and the landscape of education worldwide.
Michael’s impact was profound. His expertise secured over $75 million in funding and impacted over 3000 youth, ensuring that his vision of empowerment and opportunity became a reality. Beyond that we remember him for his deep love for his people, for education, and for his tenacity and commitment to service.
As we honor Michael’s memory today, we invite you to join us in continuing his legacy through donations at the link in our bio. Every dollar will be put toward pushing forward the African diaspora, and next week, we will proudly have the opportunity to carry on this legacy here in NYC for the 4th Permanent Forum for People of African Descent.
Happy birthday, Michael! Your passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to positive change continue to inspire us all. Together, let’s ensure that his legacy lives on, shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

10 December 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, s*x, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status!

On December 8th 1850, Educator and abolitionist Lucy Stanton Day Sessions became the first African American woman to graduate from college, completing a Ladies Literary Course from Oberlin College. For over a century the Ohio college has recognized its early Literary Course program as equivalent to a degreed program even though it did not award graduates with a bachelor’s degree.

In 1846, Stanton enrolled in Oberlin Collegiate Institute (now Oberlin College), a progressive abolitionist institution. In 1849 she was elected president of the school’s Ladies Literary Society, and her commencement speech was a moving appeal for antislavery.

We are grateful for Lucy Stanton's accomplishment and hard work that promotes educational success for people of the african diaspora today!
