Join your neighbors on March 5th from 6:30-8pm at Christ Church for a hands-on service event assembling practical care kits for the men staying at New Sunrise Shelter (3rd & Bond). Each kit will include toiletries and other essential items.

While many of our gatherings focus on connection, this one is about coming together in service—using the strength of our community to support neighbors in need. We’ll also take a few minutes to brainstorm other ways the CHA can support Cobble Hill and beyond. Snacks & refreshments provided.

Can’t make it on March 5? You can still help by donating supplies from our Wish List. Extra items will be donated or saved for a future service event.

👉 Event page (with RSVP + Wish List links): https://cobblehill.nyc/event/cha-community-service-event/
👉 RSVP and Wish List links are also available separately in comments.

The number of kits depends on attendance—please RSVP if you’re joining!

The Cobble Hill Association is working to spread awareness and solicit feedback on the Brooklyn Marine Terminal Waterfront Redevelopment. If you don't know what that is, it's the 122-acre portion of the waterfront just south of Brooklyn Bridge Park, which extends from Pier 7 all the way down to Red Hook. Not to be hyperbolic, but this redevelopment has the potential to completely transform our neighborhood - it's a big deal. While part of the goal of the project is to modernize and grow the maritime opportunities, there is also space to incorporate public uses and to make critical infrastructure changes to the surrounding vehicular and pedestrian roadways.

If you're not up to speed - we created a webpage with background info, links, and an FAQ page (link in comments).

The Cobble Hill Association is part of a Task Force that will vote on the vision and guiding principles for the redevelopment. This project requires trade-offs, so it's important to understand not only what you, as community members, want and do not want on this site, but also your priorities. You do not need to live in Cobble Hill to respond, as data from other neighborhoods will also help as we work together to envision a transformative Brooklyn waterfront. Please feel free to share this survey/post with neighbors.

A landmark land transfer swap between New York City and the NY/NJ Port Authority will enable the city to transform the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a modern maritime port and vibrant mixed-use community hub. The Cobble Hill Association has a seat on the task force advising this development. This pr...

Great turnout last night at the CHA Annual Meeting. It was great to hear directly from Congressman Dan Goldman and State Senator Andrew Gounardes about the plans for the waterfront redevelopment and the community engagement efforts they will lead as the Chair and one of the Vice Chairs of the Brooklyn Marine Task Force. We also got a chance to hear legislative updates directly from Senator Gounardes and Shahana Hanif for City Council and the office of Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon. Not only are we lucky to have these elected officials in our corner, and community partners like Brooklyn Community Board 6, Atlantic Ave Business Improvement District, and Brooklyn Heights Association, but we have so many INCREDIBLE volunteers serving on our board (including two new board members elected last night), helping to maintain Cobble Hill Park, keeping our streets clean, planning community events, and advocating on our behalf on countless issues.

Our goal at the CHA is to improve the quality of life of our residents and anyone visiting or working in our neighborhood - whether by bringing a smile to your face through fun community activities and beautiful surroundings, supporting local businesses, fighting the rats, or keeping the streets safe for all, we are here to help. Please join us by literally joining the CHA, volunteering, making a donation or all three!

Today CHA representatives were honored to attend the signing of Sammy’s Law, which gives NYC the authority to reduce the speed limit on residential streets from 25mph to 20mph. This law is named for a 12 year old boy who died after being hit by a van in Park Slope over a decade ago.

But it shouldn’t take this long or be this hard.

This feels like a relevant time to mention that it has been one year since we lost Katie Harris to a drunk driver speeding down Atlantic Avenue. Yet there has been no movement on installing traffic calming measures. Every week we personally witness or hear stories of people being nearly hit by cars, trucks, and buses running red lights on Atlantic to get to the BQE entrance.

Red light cameras could help regulate this dangerous behavior, yet the State has only allowed 150 cameras for all of NYC for the last 15 years. Senator Gounardes has a bill to increase this number to 1,325 - but it’s unclear whether it will pass or where those cameras will go. Lower speed limits, red light cameras, daylighting, etc have been proven to save pedestrian, biker, and drivers’ lives.

The CHA will continue to fight for safe streets. When we identify action items, we hope you’ll join us.

Last, but certainly not least we want to say congratulations and extend our heartfelt gratitude for the tireless work of Sammy’s mother, Amy Cohen, and fellow family members of people who have lost their lives to traffic violence have put in, forming Families for Safe Streets and advocating for this and other changes.

We also want to thank Transportation Alternatives for their work, to Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams for their support of this bill, and to our elected officials Jo Anne Simon and Senator Gounardes who co-sponsored and fought for its passing.
