Please note we’ll be closed on 10/12 in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and we’re excited to welcome you back for Open Studio Hours in NYC and MKE, a Drawlloween Creative Session in MKE, and Studio Saturday in MKE.

Art Start's Creative Sessions, Open Studio Hours, and Studio Saturdays are free, open to all youth & young adults (ages 14-24), and have hands-on art-making opportunities, music, snacks, and socializing among fellow young creatives. We hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The Artist Statement is a public art project celebrating the creativity and individuality of Milwaukee youth artists ages 14–24.

Through this project, artists will have the chance to explore who they are as an artist and as a person through writing, reflection, and hands-on art-making. They’ll create their own written and visual artist statements that share what makes their creative voice unique.

Artists will also explore Surrealism by turning everyday cardboard boxes into creative sculptures that represent different parts of themselves: their identity, lived experiences, and beliefs. Each artist will create multiple pieces that will eventually come together as one larger sculptural installation, showing how each individual piece can be part of something bigger.

The project will exhibit at Art Start Studios in Milwaukee's historic Third Ward arts district during Winter Gallery Night MKE in January 2027.

You're Invited!

Join us as Art Start takes on the iconic Drawlloween challenge this October! Both Art Start studios (Milwaukee and New York) will be hosting Drawlloween Creative Sessions, where attendees will get to explore and flex their pen & ink skills to the spookiest, scariest, creepiest, gloomiest, eeriest, and altogether most mysterious prompts.

Costumes not only welcomed, but encouraged!

👀 And, as a special "ink or treat" from Art Start, all attendees will receive a specially-themed goodie bag to take home, if they dare... 🎃
